The Fredericktowne Group Story

The Fredericktowne Group is a dedicated team of family wealth advisors that pride themselves in helping individuals, families, and businesses achieve their investment and financial goals. Over the years the name on the front door may have changed, but our values and commitment have remained the same.

Individuals: We help individual investors by creating an individualized financial/retirement plan and oversee its implementation and success to ensure you’re on track to retire. Whether you’ve just changed jobs and have a rollover from a corporate retirement plan or are starting to think about retirement, we can help!

Families: We work with families who seek to create, maintain and distribute multi-generational wealth. Our team will work with your family on an individualized financial plan and help with its implementation and provide ongoing monitoring to ensure it’s on track. The Fredericktowne Group will also help coordinate with your attorney to employ estate planning strategies for your family’s continued wealth.

Businesses & Business Owners: Our group understands the amount of work and stress that can go into running a successful business, so we strive to take some of the burden away by helping business owners plan their financial future. We help owners not only with their account and investment management but to help them create a plan for succession and ensure they maintain financial independence. The Fredericktowne Group also helps with corporate retirement plans ranging from 401Ks, SIMPLE IRAs, and more.

    Disclosure:
Typically, a retirement plan participant leaving an employer's plan has the following four options (and may be able to use a combination of these options depending on their employment status, age and the availability of the particular option):

    1. Cash out the account value and take a lump sum distribution from the current plan subject to mandatory 20% federal income tax withholding, as well as potential income taxes and 10% early withdrawal penalty tax, or continue tax deferred growth potential by doing one of the following:
    2. Leave the assets in the former employer’s plan (if permitted)
    3. Roll over the retirement assets into the new employer’s qualified plan, if one is available and rollovers are permitted, or
    4. Roll over the retirement savings into an IRA

Other factors to consider when making a rollover decision include (among other things) the differences in: (1) investment options, (2) fees and expenses, (3) services, (4) penalty-free withdrawals, (5) creditor protection in bankruptcy and from legal judgments, (6) required minimum distributions or “RMDs,” (7) the Tax Treatment of Employer Stock, and (8) the availability of plan loans (e.g., loans are not permitted from IRAs, and the availability from an employer’s qualified retirement plan will depend on the terms of the plan.)

12Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice.
