The Boston Group's Story & Services

The Boston Group at Morgan Stanley offers an unusual and distinctive lineup of services, serving several different kinds of clients.

Individuals and Families

Our team spans five decades and three generations of providing insights and comprehensive financial services to successful people and families.

We are highly credentialed, knowledgeable and experienced, offering thoughtful planning and goals-based solutions for every financial decision.

When appropriate, we use our connections within Morgan Stanley to leverage the intellectual capital of one of the most respected financial firms in the world.

Working with Professionals

When working with individual clients, we often team with outside CPAs, Agents and Estate Attorneys. Some of these professionals serve as Trusteed, and are called upon to manage investments which they lack the time or training to handle. Thus, we now work with Trustees to provide investment management for their clients.

Working with Businesses

Many of our clients run businesses: start-ups, growing independent firms, even large publicly-held companies. They often turn to us for help with business services like stock plan services and executive compensation. Similarly, clients looking to monetize their business inquire about investment banking – a natural fit, given Morgan Stanley’s global reputation in this area.

As a result, we now provide a wide array of business services.

However, no matter who we serve, one thing never changes – we provide our clients with the solutions, service and unwavering commitment needed to accomplish their goals.

Process
Our process is focused on “outcome planning”; clients are increasingly looking for long term results rather than a stock pick. In order to create a sound financial strategy together, we explore your financial past and help you to refine and define your goals. Together we align your investment requirements; clarify your employee benefits plans, insurance policies, and social security estimates. We also align all of the strategies that impact your present and future.
Making money is hard, preserving it can be harder
Achieving financial success isn’t easy but should be purposeful. As you age, the complexities of wealth increase. The details involving insurance, estate planning, retirement, tax mitigation, and transitioning wealth to heirs are important. These situations require professional insight and care. We are qualified to help you take advantage of the right opportunities to create and maintain financial independence.
Constant contact
In life, there is no constant. Markets change. Family issues arise. The political and regulatory landscapes shift. What you can count on is communication with us—Always. We communicate in person, on the phone, and by email. Our goal is to keep you informed continually, so together we can adjust and progress toward your goals.
Stay the course
We’ve seen a lot of market fluctuations in our time, subsequently we know many people invest with emotions and the scare factor in national media is in full effect. We use our experience to help you weather volatility without panic. We remain focused on your strategic plan and help you to do the same. Our fortitude has served us well through the years. And will go far in helping you stay on track too.

6 common financial concerns about living in retirement

Let Us Help You Plan Your Estate

The Boston Group at Morgan Stanley has our own in-house experts who work with our clients and their outside counsel in a collaborative way. This partnership allows us to leverage all of our institutional knowledge from working with countless families to see what may work best for you and your family. Just as important, we have decades of experience on what we should be on the lookout to avoid.

Generally, a number of tools allow the individual, rather than the state, to control their person and property when they are not able to do so due to death or incapacity. Personal factors include life events, personal preferences and wealth levels. Our goal is to work with estate planning experts to create the best outcome for you and your family.

Helping Trustees Manage Investments

Being selected as a trustee is an acknowledgement of your integrity and commitment to your client and his or her family.

However, most trustees are not investment professionals. And when a trust is transferred to a subsequent generation, you may face tough questions. These questions commonly include:

“Is your strategy growth or income?”
Understanding the needs of the trust dictates the most appropriate investment approach. We help you determine and articulate your strategy.

“Are you sure we own the right stocks?”
Once the goal has been determined and a strategy defined, choosing the correct assets becomes a more logical, calculated process.

“Can’t the portfolio reflect my values?”
We can leverage a variety of options for values-based investing, often called “Investing with Impact,” which is an increasingly important consideration for many Trusts.

“Who is managing these investments?”
When you work with the Boston Group, you are backed by the global resources of one of the leading financial firms in the world.

“How much longer will the trust last?”
We can construct simulations and what-if scenarios that will help your clients understand the trajectory of the Trust.

“How are you managing risk?”
Every investment involves risk and markets are inherently volatile. We can construct and manage a portfolio with a defined risk curve.

“Can I get more useful reports?”
We offer a variety of options for reporting on performance that are professional, thorough and understandable for clients with any level of knowledge or experience.

The Boston Group at Morgan Stanley has worked with Trustees to provide the services they need and that their clients demand. Our strategic insight, tactical savvy and professional service can help ensure that your clients are comfortable that the Trust’s assets are being properly managed.
