The Abacus Group

At The Abacus Group, we serve an elite clientele that includes Wall Street professionals, C-suite executives, entrepreneurs, entertainers and other financially successful individuals and families. Most of these clients come from middle class backgrounds and have built significant wealth through talent, hard work, and calculated risk-taking.

Acting as the CFO of our clients’ financial lives, we work to develop, implement and maintain plans to help each of our clients preserve what they have earned and simplify the administration of their financial lives. Our approach spans the four pillars of wealth management: Assets, Risk, Liability and Lifestyle. In many cases, we look to help our clients make informed decisions about the first three, so they have better choices when it comes to the fourth. We coordinate closely with our clients' CPAs, estate attorneys, insurance agents, and other advisors in an effort to simplify their financial lives and deliver cohesive solutions aligned with their goals.

Named after the abacus, a simple yet powerful device made of beads and string that is capable of performing very complex calculations, our team strives to make the complex simple and build lasting financial legacies for our clients. Leveraging our network and Morgan Stanley's resources, we offer extensive investment opportunities and create valuable connections.

We look forward to learning more about you and your vision of a successful life, and to discussing how we can help you achieve it.

Thanks to the trust our clients have placed in our team, we are honored to be recognized by Forbes as one of the Best-In-State Wealth Management teams for 2025.

Source: Barron's.com (May 2024) 2024 Barron's Top 250 Private Wealth Management Teams awarded in 2024. The teams are ranked on a variety of factors, including their size and shape, their regulatory records and credentials of their members, and the resources they have at their disposal to serve their client bases. The rankings are meant as a starting point for clients looking for an advisor—a first-pass vetting that can help investors narrow a search. Every advisor will have his or her own approach to investing, financial planning, and other services. Clients are encouraged to approach a search for an advisor the way they would a search for a doctor—interviewing multiple professionals and getting opinions from multiple third parties. Rankings are based on the opinions of Barron's and this ranking may not be representative of any one client’s experience. This ranking is not indicative of the Financial Advisor’s future performance. QSBS
Qualified small business stock (QSBS) refers to shares of a qualified small business (QSB) as defined by the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). A QSB is an active domestic C corporation whose gross assets- valued at the original cost- do not exceed $50 million on and immediately after its stock issuance. Eligible individuals meeting certain criteria are able to receive tax benefits if they hold qualified small business stock (QSBS). Our team can help determine how to take advantage of the tax incentives that come with QSBS for your own personal situation.

    Rule 10b5-1
Rule 10b5-1 allows company insiders to make predetermined trades while following insider trading laws and avoiding insider trading accusations. Companies can permit an executive to either adopt or amend a 10b5-1 plan when its executives are allowed to trade the securities in tandem with their insider trading policy. Rule 10b5-1 stops any insiders from changing or adopting a plan if they are in possession of material nonpublic information. We help guide founders how to do this properly. *

    Hedging Strategies
Hedging Strategies are designed to help reduce the impact of short-term corrections in asset prices. Effectiveness and cost are the two most important considerations when setting up a hedge. We can help take the guess work of how to hedge against different types of risk depending on your personal situation.
*Disclaimer: Clients executing a 10b5-1 Plan should keep the following important considerations in mind: (1) 10b5-1 Plans should be approved by the compliance officer or general counsel of the company; (2) A 10b5-1 Plan may require a cessation of trading activities at times when lockups may be necessary to the company (i.e. secondary offerings, pooling transactions, etc.); (3) A 10b5-1 Plan does not generally alter the regulatory requirements (e.g. Rule 144, Section 16, Section 13D) that may otherwise be applicable; (4) 10b5-1 Plans that are modified or terminated early may weaken or lose the benefit of the affirmative defense; (5) Public disclosure of 10b5-1 Plans (e.g., via press release) may be appropriate for some insiders; (6) Most companies will permit 10b5-1 Plans to be implemented only during open window periods; and (7) Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, as well as some issuers, imposes a mandatory waiting period between the execution of the 10b5-1 Plan and the first sale pursuant to the 10b5-1 Plan. Alternative investments often are speculative and include a high degree of risk. Investors could lose all or a substantial amount of their investment. Alternative investments are appropriate only for eligible, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time. They may be highly illiquid and can engage in leverage and other speculative practices that may increase the volatility and risk of loss. Alternative Investments typically have higher fees than traditional investments. Investors should carefully review and consider potential risks before investing.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Actual results may vary. Diversification does not assure a profit or protect against loss in a declining market.
