With a recent study showing that 70% of wealthy families lose their wealth by the second generation –– it’s no wonder that parents worry about their legacy. Because while you can do everything right to build it, smart decisions also have to be made to preserve it.

Our team helps you and your loved ones do just that: build AND preserve.

Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work with our clients across two and even three generations. During that time, we’ve helped them support their loved ones’ educations. We’ve helped them establish family foundations, pass on their trusts, and make charitable gifts.

One thing we’ve noticed is that young adults can get themselves into trouble when they take on too much liability––from student loans to mortgages––without first having the necessary assets to make paying off those debts sustainable. Another common challenge is the young professional who suddenly, for the first time, has a high-earning job, and doesn’t know how to invest that money.

This is why we place such an emphasis on education. At the end of the day, we want to help your kids and grandkids gain a full understanding of the disciplined, long-term perspective that built your legacy in the first place. So they can continue to grow it for generations to come.
When you achieve financial success, one of your biggest challenges becomes distilling the many facets of your affluence into one coherent plan. But that’s where our team excels. Take for example one of our clients, an entrepreneur whose most important long-term priority was to leverage the value of their business and cement a philanthropic as well as a family legacy.
    Opportunity & Challenge
Leading up to the sale, we recognized that our client had a unique opportunity to achieve their objectives in a way that would also leverage maximum value from the business sale. The main challenge was around taxes. From a regulatory standpoint, a business sale and estate distribution are both extremely complex. But if handled strategically, they would not only be able to leave a meaningful legacy with a sizeable charitable donation; they would also be able to help secure their grandchildren's future.
    Our Solution
We took a big-picture approach, creating a unified strategy that integrated charitable goals with estate planning, while also working with our clients’ CPAs to leverage innovative tax strategies to help minimize the immediate tax burden of the business sale. Ultimately, this allowed our client to make an even larger philanthropic impact AND a more substantial contribution to their grandchildren's education fund. And from a panoramic standpoint, it meant that all the levers of their financial life worked together seamlessly, helping them build a value-aligned legacy.
    Takeaway
Taxes can be daunting and almost always, they’re complex. Working alongside tax professionals, our team helps develop sophisticated strategies that consider how all the pieces of your financial life fit together. Another advantage? We’re still relatively early in our careers. That means we maintain a deep understanding of new and evolving regulations, uniquely positioning us to help optimize outcomes for our clients.
