I LOVE WHAT I DO!

In 2007 I read an article written by Dana Hammonds Shuler of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). Considering how often women can be central in Players’ lives, Dana encouraged women Financial Advisors to get registered as NFLPA Registered Player Financial Advisors. This touched me. So I decided to get registered. Sports surround my life. My CPA husband is an avid sports fan and my daughter swam Division One at Pepperdine University. While there, she interned for an agency that works with high-profile clients including celebrities. After she graduated, she worked with a human performance company that coaches every level of athlete but is best-known for training NFL Players. This has given me a rare perspective. Her background helped me to appreciate the distinct challenges and time commitments professional athletes and entertainers can face, knowing that they could benefit from being able to rely on me for their wealth management needs. I am fully committed to planning for wealth optimization for my athlete and entertainer clients, who face unusual and unique challenges. As a result, a holistic and an integrated approach to financial planning and investing is necessary so that lifestyle needs can be funded during the peak-earnings years and well beyond. Having been an experienced Financial Advisor of over 35 years, living in a great college sports city and state, I have taken the time to educate myself on becoming a valuable Financial Advisor for players, coaches, athletes, entertainers and their loved ones.

Morgan Stanley’s Global Sports & Entertainment (GSE) division is an official Institutional Financial Advisor for the NFLPA. The NFLPA launched its Institutional Financial Advisors Registration Program in 2019, allowing players access to a list of Financial Advisors affiliated with leading financial institutions. Institutional participants of the program are selected based on their industry capabilities and range of service offerings that meet the specific needs of NFL Players. As an NFLPA Registered Institutional Player Financial Advisor, Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment has the oversight of the Financial Advisors, like myself, that have been designated to provide guidance to the members of the NFLPA. I have access to specialized resources to help address the career and financial needs of both current and past NFL players. I am open to discussing the potential of possibly working together and to gain from any insight you would be willing to share with me. Please feel free to reach out to plan for a mutually-convenient time to talk.

Working Together

“In addition to Businesses and Non-profit organizations, many of my clients are high net-worth entrepreneurs, professionals, athletes, entertainers, and retirees who enjoy implementing a solid, sensible, well-balanced game-plan for striving to meet their goals and objectives. Perhaps the common thread is that my clients are open-minded, forward-thinking and goal-oriented people.

My clients and I enjoy working together. We share ideas and maintain an open line of communication. My clients know that I am readily accessible to them, prepared to assist them and dedicated to serving them. My clients hear from me on an on-going basis and I seek to establish and maintain a solid long-term relationship with them and their families.

The frequency of client meetings will vary depending on client interest. I encourage my clients to meet with me at least annually to review their investments. However, I am flexible and willing to adapt to what is appropriate for them. When we meet, I use a profile questionnaire to gather client data. I also ask that they bring any recent investment statements (including retirement plans), information on insurance, such as life, annuities and long-term care, a recent tax return and any trust documents, wills, powers of attorney and living wills with them. I tend towards developing a long-term relationship with my clients and I maintain information that I add to as I learn more about them. I will analyze and evaluate the qualitative and quantitative financial data. I develop and present them with their financial and investment recommendations. It is at this time that I will describe the scope of the engagement and the pricing. If it is agreed, we move forward with implementing the financial planning recommendations and I monitor them. The majority of my clients work with me in Advisory fee-based investing, which I encourage when appropriate. The financial planning that I provide consists of strategies to address overall wealth planning, retirement, retirement income planning, estate, education, lifestyle-management and insurance needs, such as life, annuities, and long-term care, primarily.

My key to success is to know that at the end of each day, I should feel good about what I have done, who I have served, about tomorrow and have a blissful balance in life in the process!”

8The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. 11Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
