Our Story and Services

For the past 20 years we have been working with family offices, entrepreneurs, founders, and business owners with significant wealth. As our clients and their businesses have grown so has the complexity of solutions required to meet their financial needs. Our focus has always been delivering Morgan Stanley's 'fully integrated' firm, embodying the banks founding principles of "Putting Clients First" and "Leading with Exceptional Ideas."

Wealth management has evolved significantly over the past 25 years, and the financial services industry often overlooks the unique needs of entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and founders. At Morgan Stanley, we are in a 'Category of One,' with an 85-year legacy of advising and partnering with some of the most successful entrepreneurs and families in the US. And that legacy hasn't changed, our clients still rely on us for access to capital and opportunities, trusted advice on the structure and implementation of the implications to overall allocation of assets.

What We Do

Through our experience, we can deliver the full capabilities of Morgan Stanley's global investment bank and wealth management platform. We provide access, we advise, and we allocate capital.

  • Access: We provide growth capital, bespoke credit, thought leadership, and execution.
  • Advice: Our services include capital markets, M&A advisory, wealth management, tax mitigation, family office, wealth education, trust and estate services, and philanthropy.
  • Allocate: We manage assets and liabilities, asset location, and wealth transfer.

Our clients that we serve come from diverse industries. Common themes among our clients include tax mitigation, customized liquidity and credit solutions, wealth management, direct access to private investment opportunities, risk management.

Advising our clients on intentional legacy and estate planning is an important part of our practice. Our goal is to be our clients most essential advisors and advocates, meeting their unique needs and guiding them through decisions of consequence.

We meet in 1991 during our sophomore year at Texas Tech University and have been married for 30 years and have four grown children. For more on us, see our bios.

They may be highly illiquid, can engage in leverage, short-selling and other speculative practices that may increase volatility and the risk of loss, and may be subject to large investment minimums and initial lock-ups. They may involve complex tax structures, tax inefficient investing and delays in distributing important tax information. They may have higher fees and expenses that traditional investments, and such fees and expenses can lower the returns achieved by investors.

    Property and Casualty Insurance
While many affluent families have sound plans to grow and preserve their wealth for future generations, they may be ill-prepared for the possibility of a lawsuit, property damage or loss of valuable possessions - risks that can deal a bigger financial setback in the long run than a bear-market decline in their portfolio. The inclusion of property and casualty insurance may help mitigate loss when the unexpected occurs.

Meet The Deaton Group

About Doug Deaton

With over 20 years of experience as a financial and business advisor, I specialize in working with entrepreneurs and founders who have significant wealth. My expertise stems from my successful career as an entrepreneur in the healthcare and energy sectors, as well as my roles as an M&A advisor, corporate development executive, and family office executive.

Wealth management has evolved significantly over the past 25 years, and the financial services industry often overlooks the unique needs of entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and founders. At Morgan Stanley, we are in a ‘Category of One,’ with an 85-year legacy of advising and partnering with some of the most successful entrepreneurs and families in the US. And that legacy hasn’t changed, our clients still rely on us for access to capital and opportunities, trusted advice on the structure and implementation of the implications to overall allocation of assets.

On a personal note, my wife Rachel and I live in downtown Austin, Texas, and enjoy all that the city has to offer. However, our true passion is spending time with our four kids, preferably in the mountains of Colorado and Montana. We are both active at Rawls School of Business at Texas Tech University and are crazy fans of everything Texas Tech and West Texas.

About Rachel Deaton

What ultimately drew me to financial services was the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in others' lives and the ability to work with my husband, Doug.

Being at Morgan Stanley allows us to advise clients on decisions of meaningful consequence and guiding them to be intentional with their legacy and good stewards of their wealth. At Morgan Stanley, we are in a 'Category of One,' with an 85-year legacy of advising and partnering with some of the most successful entrepreneurs and families in the US.

And that legacy hasn't changed and is carried on by us at The Deaton Group. Our clients rely on us for access to capital and opportunities, trusted advice on the structure and implementation, as well as the implications, to the overall allocation of assets.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, I had a broad range of project management and business development experience outside the finance world: starting businesses with my husband, implementing a recruiting program for a public company, working in privately held companies, art consultancy, and in setting up a family office. I also worked with several nonprofit organizations over the years and not to mention was a heck of a good school room mom year after year.

I met Doug my sophomore year of college at Texas Tech and have been married 30 years this year. We have four really cool children and two French bulldogs. I love living in downtown Austin, lingering in the Texas Hill Country at the vineyards, and hanging out with my family in Colorado and Montana. And I won't turn down a good documentary or chance to go to a farmer's market to meet local farmers.

About Patty Brueckner

Anyone that knows Patty could say she joined the financial services industry by chance but made it into a lifestyle. Currently, Patty holds both her Series 7 and 66 licenses. Patty is fluent in English, Spanish and German. Patty worked in retail banking, going from teller to banker in 4 short years, she then joined a financial services firm where she spent the next four years working in both Retirement Services and Equity compensation. In 2022, she joined Morgan Stanley as a Senior Registered Client Service Associate.

Patty was born in Cuba and has been living in the Austin, TX area since 2014. Prior to moving to Austin, Patty and her husband Scott lived in Germany and took advantage of every opportunity to travel. Outside of work, Patty enjoys waterskiing, synchronized swimming, golf, tennis, traveling and helping her family get integrated to the local vibe as they moved from Cuba in 2023. She has a beautiful Persian Chinchilla cat (the Bond kitty) named Angel that was adopted in August of 2020.
