Stephen M Parlier, CPM®

My Mission Statement
My Story and Services
Stephen Parlier began his investing career in 1987 and joined Morgan Stanley in 2008. Currently Steve is a Senior Managing Director of Portfolio Management, Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM®), and is Insurance licensed. He became a Financial Advisor because he's always loved helping people manage their money and investing it wisely. His distinctive approach implements a client's financial plan into the portfolios he manages. Steve's investment approach is driven by sector investing. This means over or under weighting sectors in response to quickly changing markets and economic conditions. By leveraging the intellectual capacity of Morgan Stanley's Global Investment Committee and other firm resources, Steve is empowered to adjust portfolio strategies accordingly. Tracking his client's ultimate goals continuously to make sure that they are always "on track" is what sets Steve apart from other planners.
The most satisfying part of his work is helping people achieve their life-long goals – whether these goals are achieving a retirement lifestyle, buying a vacation house, getting their kids through college, or anything in between.
Steve spent his undergraduate career pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance at Northern Illinois University, and then obtaining his CPM® designation from Columbia University. From working a paper route and mowing lawns all the way back in the 3rd grade to one of his first jobs at a convenience store at the age of 14 and the many formative years since then, Steve has learned the importance of money management and a strong work ethic.
Outside of the office, Steve loves watching MMA, and having lived in downtown Chicago for over 30 years, he roots for the White Sox and the Blackhawks. Additionally, Steve has been a member of the Academy of Certified Portfolio Managers since 2011, and he is also an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) – a government authorized not-for-profit organization that overseas U.S broker-dealers. Steve's been married to his wife Maureen for 20 years, and together they have two children, 16-year-old Gracie and 18-year-old Tommy.
Because of their narrow focus, sector investments tend to be more volatile than investments that diversify across many sectors and companies.

For more information regarding Morgan Stanley’s role with respect to a Retirement Account, please visit www.morganstanley.com/disclosures/dol. Tax laws are complex and subject to change. 8Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
9Fixed Income investing entails credit risks and interest rate risks. When interest rates rise, bond prices generally fall.
10Municipal bonds may not be appropriate for all investors. Income generated from an investment in a municipal bond is generally exempt from federal income taxes. Some income may be subject to state and local taxes and to the federal alternative minimum tax. Capital gains, if any, are subject to tax.
Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC (“Morgan Stanley”) and its Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors do not provide any tax/legal advice. Consult your own tax/legal advisor before making any tax or legal-related investment decisions.
11Alternative Investments are speculative and include a high degree of risk. An investor could lose all or a substantial amount of his/her investment. Alternative investments are appropriate only for qualified, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time.
12The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
13Annuities are offered in conjunction with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC’s licensed insurance agency affiliates.
