    Alternative Investments

Alternative investments may help eligible investors pursue a range of objectives. Morgan Stanley can provide access to certain alternative investment strategies, including private equity, private credit, real estate, hedge funds, managed futures, and exchange funds. These investments are often speculative and involve significant risk, including the potential loss of all or a substantial portion of the invested capital. They may be highly illiquid and may employ leverage, short selling, and other techniques that can increase volatility and the risk of loss. Alternative investments may also be subject to substantial investment minimums and lock-up periods, and may involve complex and potentially tax-inefficient structures, including delays in the delivery of tax reporting information. In addition, they may entail higher fees and expenses than traditional investments, which can reduce investor returns.

      Alternative Investments
Alternatives are the investments that go beyond traditional stocks and bonds. They can open doors to help grow and protect your wealth, and have long sought to offer enhanced returns, portfolio diversification, lower volatility, as well as potential tax efficiency.

      Private Equity
Many institutional and individual investors are weighing how inflation and hawkish central bank policy will affect corporate earnings, economic growth and the returns from their stock and bond holdings. In this environment, they may want to consider how alternative investments, such as private equity assets, can help diversify their portfolios and offer potential income generation with low correlation to public markets.

Some of these factors include: the Plan's investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan's flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan's investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state's own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state's tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan.
