Every Person Deals With Change

Some of life’s most meaningful events involve change. Some bring joy and anticipation: marriage, the birth of a child or grandchild, a career move, retirement. Some are major liquidity events, like a significant sale of stock or a business. Others are more difficult, such as a divorce or death of a loved one. Still others involve change in your own beliefs and attitudes, like choosing investments that can make a difference.

For most people, these transitions mean financial change across a whole range of topics. At Evergreen Lane Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley, we help our clients keep up with change, satisfy their financial security, lifestyle and legacy concerns, and give them the freedom to reflect on current and future goals. Our disciplined strategy identifies existing or potential strategic and tactical gaps in your portfolio and wealth plans, helps address them and guides you through life’s transitions. As your Financial Advisor, we help you grow your financial, family and social capital and achieve all that is important to you.

Our clients are corporate executives, entrepreneurs and prominent professionals, many of them women with their own unique priorities and goals, as well as family offices/foundations, corporations and retirement plans. They expect customized, thoughtful advice and solutions offered in a way that respects their limited time and anticipates their complex individual circumstances. Our team’s thought leadership, combined with the vast global resources of Morgan Stanley, helps position clients for life’s inevitable changes.

Our Core Values

• We are client-focused and personally committed to your success.
• Our team’s culture embraces creativity, different perspectives and fresh opportunities. We value candor, honesty and fairness, in our lives, careers and communities.
• We advocate employee ownership and accountability; accordingly we stand behind the integrity of our firm.
• We re-invest our resources in people and technology because we believe that ongoing education and service are the hallmarks of long-term relationships.
• We insist on meticulous attention to detail and scrutiny in both planning and execution.
• We work tirelessly to both earn and keep our clients’ trust—we believe in guidance and financial advice, service and perspective.
• We enthusiastically offer the full family office suite of advisory services to our clients through our in-house expertise and by connecting clients to carefully vetted professionals.
• We encourage open and ongoing family communication as part of a holistic approach to the successful transfer of wealth from one generation to the next.
• We are convinced that an investment strategy can aim to generate market-rate financial returns, while striving to deliver positive environmental and social impact.
• We are driven to help you fill any gaps in your planning and portfolio and grow your financial, family and social capital.

The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria.

Facilitating Family Financial Communications

Successfully transferring family wealth requires more than active and prudent financial, business and estate planning. Breakdowns in communication and trust within family units account for 70 percent of failed generational wealth transfers.

We believe that successful wealth transfers are encouraged by healthy family financial dynamics. This requires members of the family being treated with respect and some form of equity and that they be appropriately informed and engaged in open communication with each other about the family, the assets and issues surrounding transition points.

To help our clients succeed in the goal of passing their wealth and values along to the next generation, Evergreen Lane Wealth Management Group not only offers intelligent family wealth planning, but also can help facilitate family communications regarding current financial circumstances and future wealth planning.

We do this through ongoing tutelage, as well as more formalized scheduled events we call Money Talks, during which any pending transition is discussed and long-term plans are reviewed based on current circumstances.
Our goal is to do everything possible so that your wealth and values are successfully passed to your heirs according to your plans and wishes.

What Clients say about the Evergreen Lane Wealth Management Group

Every client we work with is unique in their own way. That’s why the best way to explain what we do is by offering examples. Here are three examples of how we have helped our clients deal with change and pursue what is important to them.
A fresh perspective averts a disaster for a new client
Composer Gustave Mahler said, "All that is not perfect down to the smallest detail is doomed to perish." When it comes to wealth management even a small detail can make all the difference. For example, one client had spent her life building a successful business with her partners. She came to us with clear goals and a wealth plan in place. We did a thorough discovery process nonetheless and found a potential flaw in her estate planning—she did not have adequate liquidity to protect against estate tax liabilities, putting her partnerships in jeopardy. We recommended to her and her attorney that she create a trust instrument funded with life insurance to pay taxes and protect the estate. Her situation is an example of why we review every detail and contingency, envision each scenario and plan for every potential transition.
Facilitating a Multigenerational Money Talk With a Wealthy Family
Prompted by one spouse’s health scare, a couple who we represent and for whom we helped craft an investing and estate plan that addressed their multiple interconnected goals, asked one of our team members to help them communicate the plan to their heirs. After a number of conversations regarding the complexities of the family relationships and history, our advisor helped the clients draft an agenda and presentations and then hold a daylong meeting with their four children. The couple were thrilled, not just at the financial clarity the meeting provided for the next generation, but that family issues that had bubbled under the surface for decades had been raised and addressed.
Reviewing a long term relationship over lunch
One day, a long-term client asked one of our advisors to lunch. The advisor was a bit surprised as their regular meetings with the client typically took place in our office. When the client was asked the reason for the change of venue, he simply said, "We can discuss it more at lunch," and a date was set. Before the lunch, the advisor reviewed the client’s files. He was a retired partner of a major consulting firm with whom we had planned and executed a comprehensive wealth management plan with a focus on retirement, estate planning and charitable giving. At lunch, the advisor offered a few additional solutions, which the client was happy to hear. The client then said that he had asked the advisor to lunch simply to make it clear that he was comfortable with the plan we'd had in place all these years. We look at this as a wonderful reminder of how our work can truly make a difference for our clients.

As a primary advisor to her clients and their families, she helps them keep up with change, satisfying their financial security, addressing lifestyle and legacy concerns, and guiding them through all of life’s transitions. Her disciplined strategy identifies existing or potential strategic and tactical gaps in client portfolios and plans, while helping them grow financial, family, and social capital.

Lori’s family history has informed her professional commitment to her clients. The untimely death of Lori’s mother at a young age left her feeling untethered and unprepared—especially financially. In response she began a lifelong pursuit of knowledge to help her manage money, plan ahead, think strategically and make smart decisions. After graduating with Distinction from the University of Michigan, Lori earned graduate degrees in finance and music from the University of Texas and soon after became a CPA (she no longer practices accounting). Lori felt called to help others avoid the unpreparedness she experienced and ultimately became a financial advisor dedicated to helping her clients deal with change, successfully navigate difficult transitions and use their money to achieve all that is important to them. She subsequently earned seven elite designations: Certified Financial Planner™, Certified Investment Management Analyst®, Senior Investment Management Consultant, Family Wealth Director, Alternative Investment Director, Investing With Impact Director and Lending Specialist, as well as becoming a Workplace Advisor-Equity Compensation.

Lori has authored several books and articles around what she calls “The M Word: The Money Talk.” These publications focus on topics such as family talks about money, money and the next generation and guiding families through life transitions. Lori proudly acts as a mentor to the next generation of women in financial services and is involved in leadership and civic activities, sitting on several boards in New Jersey and New York City. In her free time Lori enjoys yoga, music, travel and is an avid reader.
