Welcome

I help you plan for your future with investment strategies that seek to encompass your whole life. With nearly 26 years of experience in financial services, I work mostly on a discretionary basis to provide highly customized wealth management strategies that are designed to match your unique needs.

After graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in finance, I joined a large mutual fund company during the tech “bubble” of the late 1990s. While there, I watched how the “fad” funds fared versus many of the more traditional, conservative funds. As a result of that experience, I tend to favor conservative investments, with a focus on downside protection. I learned early on that if you lose less during “down” periods, you don’t have as much to make up during “up” cycles. I began putting that philosophy into practice when I joined Smith Barney (Morgan Stanley predecessor) as a Financial Advisor in 2000.

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), I am your advocate and act in your best interest. This designation is achieved only after undergoing a rigorous accreditation process and indicates an in-depth knowledge of the financial planning process, tax planning, employee benefits and retirement planning, estate planning and insurance.

As a Portfolio Manager Director, I am one of a very select group of Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors who can provide fully discretionary management solutions to their clientele. I offer fee-based portfolios with an open architecture approach. This methodology allows me to sit on the same side of the table with you, serving as an objective advisor and presenting investment recommendations without the potential for conflicts of interest.

Married nearly 21 years, my wife and our four children stay busy with many family and school activities. When I get time to myself, I enjoy hunting and fishing.

My Investment Philosophy

When it comes to investing your hard-earned money, I focus on two key considerations: Your time horizon and the correct placement of your investments.

Your time horizon tells us how much of your portfolio is actually available for investment. Anything you’ll need for the short term, usually 18-36 months in the future, will not go into the stock market. Similarly, the money that’s needed to meet your requirements 2-6 years down the road should not be put at risk. That leaves the remaining money in your portfolio to be earmarked for proper investing to meet your long-term needs.

When considering the best placement, or allocation, of your investment monies, I take a good, long look at each possible solution in terms of a complete market cycle. I believe it’s crucial to know how a particular financial instrument has performed in “down” years as well as in “up” years. While it may be most important to you to grow your current investments, managing market downturns can make an even bigger difference in your portfolio’s bottom line.

The impact of market downturns is one reason I place such importance on downside protection. Minimizing losses is critical because you have less money working for you after a loss, and your portfolio must generate higher returns than before just to return to the break-even point. My big-picture goal is to help you manage significant drawdowns so we can focus on building wealth when market conditions improve, rather than playing catch up with your capital.

Asset Allocation does not assure a profit or protect against loss in declining financial markets.

The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 Index tracks the performance of 500 widely held, large-capitalization US stocks. An investment cannot be made directly in a market index.

Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan.
