My Mission Statement
Deep market knowledge, comprehensive planning and a commitment to finding the best solutions to match your needs.
About Me
As a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), I help ensure that every financial decision you make can support the highest probability of achieving your goals. My comprehensive and customized financial plans are designed to shift with the changing circumstances of your life and provide you with a realistic and attainable roadmap to help you accomplish your priorities and realize your dreams.
My clients actively engage with me in the planning process. We begin by looking at the big picture of your economic situation, including your current priorities and ideal future. Then I map out different financial scenarios, each demonstrating the statistical chance of success. I make sure to stress test the final version – to incorporate the “what ifs” of a possible recession, death of a partner, reduction of pension or social security and other considerations – in order to build a personalized financial plan with the highest likelihood of successfully matching your envisioned future.
Helping achieve financial equilibrium, particularly as you accumulate wealth and responsibilities, takes significant time and energy. It is important to me that you feel confident and comfortable with your decisions around finances and investments. I take a collaborative, transparent and holistic approach to every issue we tackle and spend an incredible amount of time considering which financial choices can make a significant difference in your life. I am also intrigued by people’s behavior around financial decisions and am a student of behavioral finance.
I am a Pacific Northwest native. I grew up in Portland as the oldest of seven children and attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. In college, I held a national ranking in speech and debate competitions. It taught me how to prepare thoroughly, consider an issue from multiple angles and make a plan with a goal in mind. After graduating with double degrees in finance and speech communications, I moved to Denver, Colorado to work for a private financial firm that provided services to credit unions. My husband, Mark, and I returned to the Pacific Northwest in 2002, where I became a Financial Advisor with Solomon Smith Barney (a Morgan Stanley predecessor firm), eventually joining Ken Mogseth and Chase Wanamaker. I earned an executive certificate in financial planning from the University of Portland and received my CFP® designation in 2005.
Outside of work, my husband and I are raising our two children in the Vancouver-Portland area. Our family loves to ski, play games, watch movies and spend time with friends. I am a voracious audio book reader, I love to bake and I enjoy the paper arts.

The solutions we provide you are designed to help you get to where you want to go. Like a car’s navigational system, your financial planning map provides a reliable turn-by-turn route that aims to steer safely around unexpected roadblocks and provide you with the surest path to your destination.
Like most people, your destination is probably a long, comfortable retirement, with no compromise in lifestyle and no real concern of ever running out of money. It may also be the ability to offer meaningful financial assistance in the financial lives of your children and/or grandchildren, either during your lifetime, in the form of legacies, or both. Or, the transfer of a family business to the next generation. And, don’t forget about those meaningful contributions to a much-loved school, church, charity, museum or other organizations.
We draw on our more than four decades of financial planning experience, as well as Tomie Schmidt’s Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) credentials and strong commitment to building comprehensive, custom plans, to provide you with an unusually strong and deep set of planning strategies and knowledge. We pay attention to what drives you, both in terms of your immediate financial concerns and challenges, as well as your non-financial longer-term goals and passions. Because, at the end of the day, money is just a means to an end; it is useful because of what it can provide for you. And that is your ultimate destination.

If you were asked to identify the most difficult aspect of successful investing, you would probably agree that it’s knowing when – rather than what – to buy and sell. We agree. That’s why our approach to portfolio management uses a proprietary blend of economic indicators to dynamically position your investment portfolio in an effort to weather and profit from what lies ahead.
This approach is different than traditional, more passive buy-and-hold portfolio strategies that may remain static despite changing economic conditions. Over the past three decades, we have developed a proprietary blend of 26 Recession Risk Indicators to help identify the probability of a recession within the next 6 to 12 months. When those indicators increase to a certain level, we make portfolio adjustments seeking to mitigate or capitalize upon the impact. Given that the Standard & Poor's 500 Composite Stock Price Index has averaged declines of more than 43.3% during the last 12 drawdowns in the past 91 years* (defined as declines of 25% or greater from the peak), we believe an understanding of and active engagement with this issue is critical for strategic and tactical portfolio management.
Our disciplined, custom portfolio models are designed to match your risk tolerance as well as help meet your needs and goals. Ken Mogseth, CPM®, directs our team’s portfolio management models. As a Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM®) and a Morgan Stanley designated Portfolio Management Director, he is one of few financial advisors who have been qualified by Morgan Stanley to independently manage client assets. Ken’s deep level of economic understanding is achieved through his tremendous dedication to independent economic research and analysis.
