Dynamic Discovery

The Watchtower Group begins every new client engagement with a detailed “Discovery” process. We generate a comprehensive analysis of your existing assets, work with you to identify and articulate your short, medium, and long-term goals, determine your risk tolerance, and generally get to know you and how we can best serve you.

This up-front Discovery is only the beginning.

Because our goal is to be your advisor for many decades (and perhaps generations), we practice what we call “Dynamic Discovery.” Dynamic Discovery acknowledges the certainty of change. Changes in your life. Changes in the markets and the economy. Changes that could have a major impact on your wealth, and your future.

Dynamic Discovery allows us to not merely respond to changes, but to anticipate them. Births. Passings. Changes in career. New passions. Sale of a business. Inheritances. We believe in navigating each phase of your life with you because, to quote the philosopher Heraclitus, “the only constant in life is change.”

    Birth
Welcoming a child into the family is a joyous occasion for everyone—for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins and other extended family members. As a trusted advisor to our clients, we play a critical role in helping you plan and prepare for the financial components that a new child introduces into your lives—everything from planning for the costs associated with birth, adoption or surrogacy; anticipating unexpected medical expenses; understanding gifting requirements; preparing for child care and planning for educational expenses.

    Education
Education is a major investment and expense for most of our clients—one that often requires years of careful, advanced planning. As educational costs continue to rise—from primary education through undergraduate, graduate and professional schools—we can help you approach the range of educational expenses, such as tuition, extension programs and advanced professional training, with appropriate funding strategies for your particular situations.

    Business/Work
Many of our clients have complex business arrangements, from executive-level employment situations to various levels of investment in a multitude of business ventures—from startups to established enterprises. As their Financial Advisor, we play a critical role in helping them navigate the complexities of business ownership, investment and associated activities such as selling, divesting or planning for succession.

Typically, we encounter three primary scenarios with our clients:

    - Starting a business
    - Funding a business
    - Exiting a business

    Marriage
There are few events more exciting than when our client decides to align their life with the person they love. Of course, there are conversations you should have with your partner before tying the knot. One of the most important is about money—how you will make it, save it, spend it and invest it. In addition, helping fund an adult child’s wedding is a goal for many parents (and grandparents). As your Financial Advisor, we can play an important role in helping you plan for these milestones and guiding your conversations.

    Divorce
Divorcing a spouse can be a difficult ordeal, with repercussions for your client’s emotional and financial well-being. Although divorce is seldom easy, your clients can prepare for it, which will help them feel more in control and better equipped to make informed, confident decisions about their financial futures. Help clients regain their footing and move forward with confidence in their new life.

It can be very difficult to brave this battle alone. In this stage of their life, an individual needs all the help they can get. It can be beneficial to build an advisory team composed of:

    - An attorney
    - An accountant
    - A personal counselor
    - A Financial Advisor

    Retirement
Today's 65-year-olds have a high likelihood of living until their mid-80s, and it's not uncommon anymore to reach substantially beyond that. That means you need to plan for a retirement that will span two decades and potentially much more. Longer retirements are great outcomes, but also place a great deal of stress on a household’s finances. As your Financial Advisor, we make sure to put a plan in place so that you are able to take on any curveball retirement may throw at you.

Serving the complex needs of our clients.

Many of our clients are successful entrepreneurs and business executives, who often have their wealth concentrated in a company they own, or in their employer’s stock. While these are wonderful assets to have, integrating them into a goals-based wealth management plan requires particular knowledge and skills.

If you are an entrepreneur who owns a company, for example, you may eventually seek to monetize it. Using our decades of experience, we can help you create an appropriate cash flow from this wealth, or perhaps pass it along to the next generation.

If you are a senior executive, perhaps you have a concentrated or restricted stock position. There are detailed regulations and requirements for trading or selling this stock – we can provide thoughtful, rational advice on the best way to do that.

Other areas of focus include creating liquidity from non-liquid assets, fixed-income investing and maximizing the value of (and mitigating the tax burden on) executive compensation packages.

By offering the appropriate skills for your specific situation, we can help you leverage your hard-earned wealth and reach your personal goals.

Comprehensive Financial Planning

Regardless of what stage your life is in - moving ahead in your career, enjoying retirement, or somewhere in between - as your Financial Advisors, we can help you achieve your financial goals.

Using a suite of tools that includes goal-specific analysis, we can work with you to create a realistic, holistic strategy that integrates the various aspects of your financial life, including your investments and cash management needs.

We can create your personal roadmap to help achieve and protect your goals — a framework that makes the connection between your life goals and your financial resources, and provides a baseline for future discussions.

Meet The Watchtower Group

About Steve R Gaumer

Steve has 27 years of enriching experience counseling clients, starting his career as a financial advisor in 1996 with predecessor firm, Smith Barney. Steve’s professional career began in NYC in the advertising industry and evolved to running his own sales and marketing business.

As an advisor, Steve’s prior experience in advertising and as a business owner gives him a unique perspective. That perspective confirmed the idea that seemingly immovable obstacles can be overcome with discipline, hard work and a different perception. His differentiating skill is his ability to interpret client goals and concerns into a coherent financial mosaic for resolving complex issues. Steve sees his clients as ever-evolving people. He views each client interaction as an opportunity to learn more about them and to sharpen his advice and insight.

Away from work, Steve is a skier, golf addict, and finds nothing more relaxing than messing around in boats or doing his own yardwork. Steve and his wife Alyson find great companionship with five children, six grandchildren, two dogs and two cats. Steve has served his community (Cohasset MA) for 12 years as chairman of the Capital Budget Committee, another 6 years as selectman and for past four years as chairman of the Affordable Housing Trust. About Robert G Cormier

Bob has worked all his life starting in the 4th grade with a paper route. His parents instilled him with discipline and the value of hard work. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies at the United States Military Academy. West Point taught him world class problem solving and leadership skills. He served nine years active-duty spending time in both Europe and the Middle East. Those experiences help him better understand the geopolitical environment we operate in today.

Bob was recruited into financial services by Merrill Lynch in 1999. He later joined Smith Barney in 2005 which was acquired by Morgan Stanley in 2009. Bob became a financial advisor because he saw firsthand the impact on his father’s equity compensation when his employer went bankrupt. Financial literacy has always been a passion ever since.

Bob takes the time to develop deep and lasting relationships with his clients. He enjoys the challenge of the constantly changing capital markets and deciphering the best way to translate his knowledge and experience into portfolios to help clients achieve their goals and dreams. Bob has guided clients through multiple bear markets as well as bull market cycles throughout his 25+ year career. He focuses on what is important, “distinguishing the signal from the noise”.

Bob takes a very hands-on approach to portfolio management. Each client portfolio is custom tailored to their specific needs. Bob and his team start each client relationship with discovery and due diligence to ensure we truly understand our clients, their goals, and what is most important in their lives. Bob is a member of the Watchtower Group which consists of Steve Gaumer, Bob Cormier, Kayla Packer, a planning and fixed income specialist, and client service associate Chantal Martinez Blanco.

She served as a Client Service Associate where she spent six years delivering hands-on, white-glove service while getting to know clients on both a professional and personal level.
