Why Clients Choose Us

Selecting a financial advisor isn’t easy – how do you know who is right for you? Over the years, we’ve found that clients respond well to the culture of the University Group at Morgan Stanley, because our approach is based on these characteristics:
    Icon Image
    We keep it simple
Though the research and analysis we perform is complex and rigorous, we whittle down the data to easily accessible, bite-sized options for our clients. In other words, we do the legwork to help make your choices easier.
    Icon Image
    A focus on growth
We seek short- and long-term growth at a reasonable price, which can make us an ideal choice for clients looking to build their wealth.
    Icon Image
    No secrets, no surprises
With the University Group, you know exactly what you own, what it costs, how much you are spending on fees, where you stand in relation to your overall financial plan. We are direct, truthful and frank.
    Icon Image
    Integrated services
Many of our clients have relationships with professionals such as attorneys and CPAs. We believe in working with your trusted professionals, so that your financial choices are fully integrated with the rest of your life.
    Icon Image
Advice for virtually every financial decision
No financial choice exists in a vacuum – every decision is tied to the one before it and the one to follow. An overall strategy is essential as you work toward your financial goals. We help bring it all together.

How we work with clients

We believe in a systematic yet flexible process for managing wealth. Not only does this maintain a strategic focus, it can save you money and help increase your wealth. And it all starts with an understanding of your life, your goals and your preferences.
    Icon Image
    Step 1: Gather information
We cannot make proper recommendations without a clear and comprehensive understanding of where you are today. We analyze your current status, which also assembles virtually all important information in one place.
    Icon Image
Step 2: Understand who you are
What are your concerns? What keeps you up at night? How do you prefer to work with us? What about timeframes, purchase goals, retirement priorities, family obligations? Questions like these inform our portfolio recommendations.
    Icon Image
    Step 3: Recommendations
Every client is different, and we create a customized portfolio. We adjust recommendations to accommodate a series of timelines based on your present and future goals.
    Icon Image
    Step 4: Implementation
Once you’ve approved our recommendations, we don’t just dump assets into the market – a more strategic approach can save you money. We purchase assets using dollar-cost averaging. If it’s appropriate to sell an asset, we consider the most advantageous tax position.
    Icon Image
    Step 5: Review
There are times when your circumstances may change. The market may evolve. Individual companies may face challenges. At regular intervals, we will see where you stand and what may need adjustment. And you will know exactly where you stand.
    Disclaimer:
Any type of continuous or periodic investment plan does not assure a profit and does not protect against loss in declining markets. Since such a plan involves continuous investment in securities regardless of fluctuating price levels of such securities, the investor should consider his financial ability to continue his purchases through periods of low price levels.

Meet The University Group

About Kevin Forrest

I work with clients to build investment portfolios designed to help them reach their financial goals. I’ve been with the University Group at Morgan Stanley for more than 10 years, and have been named a 5-Star Wealth Manager for the past 4 years, most recently in 2024.

Before becoming a financial advisor, I was a competitive soccer player. I played Division One soccer at the University of Washington, where I was honored to be named both an All-American and a Pac-10 Player of the Year student-athlete. I later played professionally, including some time with the Seattle Sounders FC.

As anyone who has played team sports at a high level can tell you, the things you learn have a profound impact on how you live your post-athletic life. For me, the most important lessons were the importance of teamwork, the value of intense preparation and knowing how to grow from past experience (good or bad). I also love being part of a team, and believe that we all thrive most when success is shared. That’s why I often leverage the immense resources of Morgan Stanley to help serve our clients.

I earned a degree from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, and still work to enhance my knowledge – reading about different assets, technology & history is one of my favorite pastimes, along with international travel and working out.

About Dan L Becraft

I’ve been passionate about investing for more than 25 years. I started my career as a runner on the New York Stock Exchange, where the energy and dynamic environment are intoxicating. But, to succeed as an investor, I knew that the key was information.

That’s why I am a big proponent of analytics. I believe that an informed, thoughtful investor can identify opportunities for growth at reasonable cost.

The market is also a factor. Successful investing means thinking about the future of the whole world. I earned a degree from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business in Management of Innovation and Technology, and have seen how important it is to be vigilant about the future – whole industries can be upended overnight (photographic film, CDs, landline telephone manufacturers to name a few relatively recent examples) and keeping on top of evolving markets is crucial.

Before my time as a financial advisor, I was a firefighter for the City of Seattle and previously served in the Air Force. Both experiences taught me the importance of planning, staying cool under pressure and sweating the details.

On our team, my role is use my knowledge and experience to create portfolios that help clients achieve their goals. My Family Wealth Director designation speaks to my ability to help clients with their most complex financial issues. I have also been recognized as a 5-Star Wealth Manager for 13 consecutive years, most recently in 2024.

I live with my wife in Seattle and Leavenworth, having raised two children. I enjoy racing mountain bikes and working on our 40 acre property outside Leavenworth.

Disclaimer:
Growth investing does not guarantee a profit or eliminate risk. The stocks of these companies can have relatively high valuations. Because of these high valuations, an investment in a growth stock can be more risky than an investment in a company with more modest growth expectations.

Because of their narrow focus, sector investments tend to be more volatile than investments that diversify across many sectors and companies.

The mere fact that I am a part of the University Group at Morgan Stanley demonstrates why we are different – we believe that preparing our clients for the future means providing thoughtful advice on virtually every financial issue, and my experience provides an important balance. 9Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice.
