The Tholl Pearson Group at Morgan Stanley

Our Mission Statement
Our Story
If you're like many investors, you realize that managing your investment portfolio requires time, experience and knowledge that you may not possess. That's why so many rely on professional asset managers to assume responsibility for day-to-day investment decisions.
The question is which of the thousands of asset managers competing for your business should you choose.
The Tholl Pearson Group is a team of experienced financial professionals who offer institutional-level portfolio management in a private family office-like environment. We believe that our approach to investing sets us apart from other managers available to you. Called PowerScore, this proprietary methodology has prompted many Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors to work with us and provide their clients with the personalized investment management necessary to help them pursue even their most challenging goals. At the same time, however, we recognize that investment management, while critical, is only part of what our clients require. That is why go far beyond your portfolio to advise you on lending, estate planning strategies, risk management – in short, virtually every aspect of your financial life.

Source: Forbes.com (Jan 2025) 2025 Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Management Teams ranking awarded in 2025. This ranking was determined based on an evaluation process conducted by SHOOK Research LLC (the research company) in partnership with Forbes (the publisher) for the period from 3/31/23–3/31/24. Neither Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC nor its Financial Advisors or Private Wealth Advisors paid a fee to SHOOK Research LLC, for placement on its rankings. This ranking is based on in-person and telephone due diligence meetings to evaluate each Financial Advisor qualitatively, a major component of a ranking algorithm that includes client retention, industry experience, review of compliance records, firm nominations, and quantitative criteria, including assets under management and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criterion. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research LLC and may not be representative of any one client's experience; investors must carefully choose the right Financial Advisor or team for their own situation and perform their own due diligence. This ranking is not indicative of the Financial Advisor's future performance. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC is not affiliated with SHOOK Research LLC or Forbes. • The Tholl Pearson Group at Morgan Stanley is an experienced portfolio manager. We are recognized by Morgan Stanley as a strategic partner. For implementing the allocation decisions across all of our portfolios, we employ a security ranking process that we call, PowerScore.
• Via a Bloomberg linkage for data, we calculate the PowerScore for a variety of exchange listed securities. The PowerScore for each security is produced by evaluating a series of trailing returns over various time frames. These trailing returns are weighted, and then translated into a numerical PowerScore.
• To evaluate what we believe is the short term health of the equity market, we employ a Component Scoring Table (CST).
→ Each Component is scored on a consistent formulaic basis in a range of +2, the maximum positive score to -2, the maximum negative score.
→ We believe that the stronger the Overall Score, the stronger the equity market environment. We call this a GREEN short term equity market environment.
→ We believe that the weaker the Overall Score, the weaker the equity market environment. We call this a RED short term equity market environment.
• To evaluate what we believe is the health of the equity market, we employ our PowerScore Strength Dial (PSD) to monitor the S&P 500 Index.
→ We believe that the stronger the positive PowerScore, the greater the momentum of capital flowing into the equity market. We call this a GREEN market environment.
→ We believe that a negative reading on the PSD demonstrates that capital is flowing out of the equity markets. We call this a RED market environment.
• To evaluate the health of the US economy, we employ our multifactor economic model, the Risk Appetite Dial (RAD). The RAD is comprised of an equal weighting of four economic factors we believe best indicate the overall health of the US economy.
→ When the RAD is reading above -1, we believe that the economy is expanding, thereby creating a GREEN economic environment.
→ When the RAD is reading -1 or lower, we believe that the economy is contracting, thereby creating a RED economic environment.
• When both the PSD and RAD are GREEN, we are generally overweight equity allocation as allowed by the risk range assigned to each PowerScore Portfolio.
• When both the PSD and RAD are RED, we are generally underweight equity allocation as allowed by the risk range assigned to that PowerScore Portfolio.
