WELCOME

Our mission as advisors is to be at the center of our client's financial lives. We strive to help each client understand how to frame their wealth and their financial goals. This is unique for everyone. Some clients need legacy planning, others need cash flow planning, many need one-off advice on a vexing financial issue, all need asset management. We endeavor to help our clients live comfortable financial lives, and to engage with their wealth on a level that feels right for them. We can provide sage guidance from Beth’s 25+ year experience as a professional, FinTech Founder/CEO, investor, philanthropist, and parent to four children. As the financial world is constantly evolving, we too try to remain current - we undergo advanced training on a regular basis to provide modern, relevant solutions.

In terms of the day to day?

We try to help clients every day, often seven days a week. For many, we are their main financial compass and team to whom they turn to sort through difficult issues. We try to clarify the matter, candidly assess what is involved, and work diligently with the stakeholders to work through a resolution. Matters might include cash flow decisions, estate planning decisions, charitable structure decisions, complicated investment decisions (not necessarily regarding a portfolio, yet rather real estate, restricted securities, gifting strategies, 10b5-1 plan strategies, etc.). We work closely with the legal and tax counsel of many clients, as of course these conversations cannot happen in a vacuum.

In terms of asset management, Beth created and actively manages 7 proprietary portfolio models. We can create your Donor Advised Fund. In addition, we often hire outside talent for 'satellite' strategies and may implement indexing, structures, tactical positions, fixed income, and/or alternatives.

We tie together planning with asset management to provide a complete wealth management solution. Review meetings are held at the frequency and location in which our clients find most comfortable.

The teams are ranked on a variety of factors, including their size and shape, their regulatory records and credentials of their members, and the resources they have at their disposal to serve their client bases. The rankings are meant as a starting point for clients looking for an advisor—a first-pass vetting that can help investors narrow a search. Every advisor will have his or her own approach to investing, financial planning, and other services. Discovery Process
Investing the time to learn about you and your family; your assets and liabilities and the risk exposures, enables us to formulate strategies and customize the relationship to your needs.
Formulation of Tax, Trust and Estate Strategy
Working with your tax and legal advisors, we help analyze your income and estate tax circumstances to identify and tailor planning techniques that may be used to address your objectives.
Creation of Customized Strategic Asset Allocation
Your customized asset allocation reflects risk, opportunities and taxation across multiple entities, while integrating your investing and estate plans.
Integration of Tactical Asset Allocation
Short-term adjustments seek to capitalize on temporary market distortions. Before making adjustments, we analyze the impact of taxes and trading costs on potential returns.
Implementation of a Customized Wealth Strategy
After comprehensive due diligence and analysis of expected results across multiple market scenarios, strategies are chosen from our expansive investment platform.
Ongoing Assessment
In coordination with your other advisors, we can conduct ongoing reviews and comprehensive reporting to ensure that your strategy adapts to changing financial and family needs.

    Day-to-day
Helping clients every day, often seven days a week, is at the heart of our high-touch practice. For many, The Scanlan Wealth Management Group is the main financial compass and team to whom clients turn to sort through difficult issues. Beth’s service model is to clarify the matter and understand nuances, candidly assess what is involved, and work diligently with the stakeholders to work through a resolution. She and her team attempt to unburden and simplify their client’s lives. Matters might include cash flow decisions, estate planning decisions, charitable structure decisions, and complicated investment decisions (not necessarily regarding a portfolio, yet rather real estate, privately held entities, restricted securities, gifting strategies, 10b5(1) plan strategies, etc.). Beth and her team will often work closely with the legal and tax counsel of many clients, as of course these conversations cannot happen in a vacuum.
    Icon Image
    Financial Planning
Financial planning has many facets. At the center is identifying client goals, as well as examining the various ‘hard’ components: cash flows, balance sheet, and timeline. It is equally important to examine the key ‘intrinsics’: attitudes, hesitations, and proclivity for involvement (which might include whether the client pays their own bills or wishes to hire this out). Whether living off assets, or running a company (or both!), Beth’s team helps clients track cash flow and the various components from which their income and expenses are derived. For business executives, Beth models vesting of restricted stock, exercise decisions for options, tax obligations, funding obligations, liquidity events. For many clients, she creates baseline financial planning models and from there pivots and explores what-if scenarios.
    Icon Image
    Portfolio Management
Beth is passionate about investment management and a perfectionist, to the extent there can be such a thing in a world of intangibles. She crafts and manages original portfolios as well as carefully working with outside investment management firms who pass her standards of ‘excellence’.

Beth developed her craft as a portfolio manager in the late 90’s, while a graduate student in finance. In addition to using proprietary investment models, SWMG may diversify client portfolios into third party management strategies (such as International) as well as select tactical positions and alternatives (such as structures, private equity and hedge funds).
    Icon Image
    Staying in Touch
It is important to honor the mode in which clients are most comfortable communicating. In addition to a sophisticated self-service digital platform, Beth and her team are of course available in person, via email, via text and via phone. Formal review meetings are held at the frequency and location in which clients find most comfortable. Concurrently, clients have ongoing and sometimes sudden needs to which SWM strives to promptly address -- questions, requests, and projects -- providing each client with a virtually unparalleled level of service.
    Icon Image
    Tying it Together
Together with her team, Beth orchestrates each client’s financial world – which includes articulating their unique goals, financial profile, and planning needs, providing customized portfolio management, and coordinating with tax, insurance, and estate counsel -- to provide a complete wealth management solution.

Meet The Scanlan Wealth Management Group

About Beth Scanlan

Beth Scanlan, CFP®, MBA, is the founder of The Scanlan Wealth Management Group at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management. She and her team create and orchestrate bespoke wealth management solutions for founders, early employees, and officers of public and private companies.

Forbes Magazine has recognized Beth as one of the top 100 Women Financial Advisors, nationally, for the years 2018-2020 and 2022-2025.

Beth’s roots are in Fintech, and while at business school (Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley) Beth co-founded EA Invest. Its earliest products were productivity tools. Yet, like most start-up’s, the company pivoted for ‘product-market’ fit.

Beth was inspired in 1999, when she took Professor Jennifer Chatman’s leadership class and met the late Patricia Dunn, the former CEO of Barclays Global Investors (‘BGI’, later acquired by Blackrock). At the time, Beth was creating quantitative models that harnessed Modern Portfolio Theory, and BGI was creating a new class of ETF investor tools, that would later be known as the ‘iShare’. Today, this modeling practice is all the norm, yet Beth was one of the earliest pioneers. At the time, Beth asked BGI for new types of ETF’s that her model called for and assisted as a beta tester. Beth raised $10mm in venture capital, and ran EA Invest as its CEO and visionary for nearly five years, all the way through the dotcom bubble, before returning to Wall Street in 2002. In 2016, Beth joined Morgan Stanley. She continues to develop and manage quantitative modeling solutions and is the distinguished model owner for Morgan Stanley’s ‘Tax-Efficient Portfolio Management’.

Philanthropy is very important to Beth, volunteering over the past decade as CFO and Treasurer for a variety of non-profits focusing on youth, financial literacy and environmental education. She has founded two endowments, one of which now exceeds $50M in assets. Beth leverages this non-profit financial knowledge and experience to assist her clients in their philanthropic endeavors, ranging from governance to creating Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) and endowments to support their passions. For years, Beth taught financial literacy to disadvantaged youth with Palo-Alto based Able Works. She currently serves on the board of the Peninsula Girls Chorus, a beloved Bay Area group that provides arts education and musical performance for young women ages 4-19.

Beth also attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate, earning a dual BA in Legal Studies and Mass Communications. She is a lifelong Cal Bear!

Beth and her husband Eric and youngest daughter live on the San Francisco Peninsula. Beth’s older kids also reside in the Bay Area –the family is an extremely close-knit bunch! In their spare time, they enjoy travel, the performing arts, the outdoors, and exploring ideas of all kinds.

About Rajvi Berry

I provide a comprehensive financial plan with investments designed to fit my clients' life goals. I have over twenty-five years of financial services' experience. In addition to providing personalized care, I utilize Morgan Stanley’s expansive resources including diversification of concentrated stock positions and form strategic alliances with other advisors within the firm to provide the best for you and your family.

Blessed to connect deeply with my clients, I value the art of listening and find that this easily develops into a collaborative discussion about what clients want and need, and how this fits into a quantitative plan for their benefit. My own experiences and personal understanding of large market devastation helps me maintain awareness of the challenges associated with juggling top priorities on multiple fronts. As a result, I’m a conscientious advisor, focused on the importance of building a financial plan as a family, and utilizing diversified holdings and strong investments.

As a mother of three myself, it’s very important to me that, when appropriate and approved by the parents, children are involved in planning. If and when net worth is passed down, the next generation should be as informed as possible without compromising their own ambitions.

1Investing in the market entails the risk of market volatility. The value of all types of investments may increase or decrease over varying time periods. The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable or impact investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability and impact criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria.
