About Peter O'Brien
Peter has always been an active participant in his professional field and his community. In his early career he lectured in various banking and financial subjects at the City of London Polytechnic and the City University, and he has enjoyed delivering presentations on the European sovereign debt crisis, Brexit, and developments in the European economy to various groups of clients and professional organizations. Peter has been heavily involved in the activities of the Investments and Wealth Institute for many years, and he has assisted them with the preparation and testing of the professional exam programs for their prestigious Investment Management Consultant and Certified Private Wealth Advisor designations. He was also a long-standing member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the “Investments and Wealth Monitor’, an influential investment management industry publication. He has also enjoyed coaching and mentoring rising Morgan Stanley financial advisors both locally and nationally.
He has served on numerous boards within the northeast Florida community, including the Jacksonville Community Council (“JCCI), the Cathedral Arts Project, Opera Jax, and Palmer Catholic Academy. He especially enjoyed his work on the Board of Operation New Hope, a nationally-recognized leader in re-entry programs for the formerly incarcerated, on which he served for six years, two as Board Chairman. He has helped numerous high school students as a mentor for many years through the Take Stock in Children program, and he has volunteered extensively with numerous other non-profits in various local activities including the Breast Cancer Marathon and fundraisers for the Community Hospice foundation. He is a graduate of the Leadership Jacksonville class of 2015 and continues to help that organization with candidate selection and their various program days.
Peter is a highly qualified soccer coach and referee, and he is a passionate Manchester United fan. He calculates that he has seen them play more than one thousand games! Born in Saint Louis, he has never wavered in his lifelong devotion to the Cardinals. He is a voracious reader and enjoys keeping fit through yoga, swimming and regular workouts. He completed his first marathon in 2010 and followed that with numerous half-marathons and 5K’s. He also enjoys the theatre, world travel and writing. He is a mid-handicap golfer and tries to relish the challenge of playing his home course at Sawgrass Country Club in all conditions.
Peter and his wife live in Ponte Vedra Beach where they are active parishioners at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. They have three adult children and a growing number of equally adored grandchildren.
