Our Team

Ferdinand Magellan knew how to navigate, using his legendary skills to lead the first seafaring crew to circumvent the globe. Most importantly, Magellan possessed the courage, perseverance and discipline to remain committed to his plan. Secure in knowing that if he trusted his mapping skills, his goals and objectives would become manifest.

Our team derives its name from the inspiration of Magellan. Located in Morgan Stanley’s global headquarters in New York City, our team of 12 investment professionals conceive, design, implement and monitor bespoke wealth management plans for a select group of high-net worth individuals, their families, Private Foundations and generational trusts.

Like Magellan, our value proposition is rooted in discovery. Our team members are dedicated to and experienced in asset allocation, investment manager search and selection, risk management, and tax efficient investing. We work with our clients in a collaborative framework to clearly define goals and objectives; then map wealth management plans to navigate toward the achievement of those stated goals.

Our team canvasses the universe of investment management vehicles, including, but not limited to: Exchange Traded Funds, Separately Managed Accounts, Mutual Funds, Alternative Investments and Cash Management Strategies to recommend those mixes of assets with the potential to optimize risk-adjusted, long-term returns, net of fees and taxes.

Expert navigational skills cannot be optimized without a sturdy and well-staffed vessel. Morgan Stanley provides the thought leadership, institutional products, services and technology as well as expertise in investment banking, capital markets and asset management necessary to complement that objective and thoughtful advice provided by Magellan.

The combination of a first-class dedicated wealth management team, located within one of the world’s premier financial institutions, provides an unparalleled value proposition for our current and prospective clients. Source: Barron's.com (May 2024) 2024 Barron's Top 250 Private Wealth Management Teams awarded in 2024. The teams are ranked on a variety of factors, including their size and shape, their regulatory records and credentials of their members, and the resources they have at their disposal to serve their client bases. The rankings are meant as a starting point for clients looking for an advisor—a first-pass vetting that can help investors narrow a search. Every advisor will have his or her own approach to investing, financial planning, and other services. Clients are encouraged to approach a search for an advisor the way they would a search for a doctor—interviewing multiple professionals and getting opinions from multiple third parties. Approach and Philosophy

Tab Image
Discovery Process
Investing the time to learn about you and your family; your assets and liabilities and the risk exposures, enables us to formulate strategies and customize the relationship to your needs.
Formulation of Tax, Trust and Estate Strategy
Working with your tax and legal advisors, we help analyze your income and estate tax circumstances to identify and tailor planning techniques that may be used to address your objectives.
Creation of Customized Strategic Asset Allocation
Your customized asset allocation reflects risk, opportunities and taxation across multiple entities, while integrating your investing and estate plans.
Integration of Tactical Asset Allocation
Short-term adjustments seek to capitalize on temporary market distortions. Before making adjustments, we analyze the impact of taxes and trading costs on potential returns.
Implementation of a Customized Wealth Strategy
After comprehensive due diligence and analysis of expected results across multiple market scenarios, strategies are chosen from our expansive investment platform.
Ongoing Assessment
In coordination with your other advisors, we can conduct ongoing reviews and comprehensive reporting to ensure that your strategy adapts to changing financial and family needs.
Philosophy
We are stewards of our client’s hard earned treasure. At the heart of our philosophy around the strategic management of those assets is the college endowment model of investment management. Specifically, our team strives to incorporate David Swensen, the leading investor of Yale’s endowment, and his team’s strategy. Below are the driving factors of our approach:

1. Understanding that asset allocation and asset location are key for goal based investors
2. Creating an optimally constructed portfolio employing both active and passive investment management
3. Minimizing fees and taxes
4. Mitigating through proper asset allocation
5. Minimizing market timing and being strategic and disciplined in our investment approach
6. Integrating tax, trust, estate, insurance, philanthropic and generational planning, and planning experts with investment plans
7. Periodically re-balancing portfolios back into the client’s investment plan

Asset allocation, diversification and rebalancing do not assure a profit or protect against loss. There may be a potential tax implication with a rebalancing strategy. Please consult your tax advisor before implementing such a strategy.

Philanthropy

The Magellan Group at Morgan Stanley has always been committed to giving back to our community. Taking time off-the-desk to help serve the less fortunate is an important piece of our mission and we strive to make a difference whenever possible. The Bowery Mission
The Bowery Mission has served homeless and hungry New Yorkers since the 1870s. Their children's programs, called Mont Lawn City Camp & Mont Lawn Summer Camp, serve youth and began in 1894 by giving the children of recent immigrants the chance to escape the tenements in the summer.

Today, The Bowery Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of New York City's most effective.

    Coalition for the Homeless
The Coalition for the Homeless is the nation's oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless individuals and families. The Coalition believes that affordable housing, sufficient food, and the chance to work for a living wage are fundamental rights in a civilized society.

Since their inception in 1981, the Coalition has worked through litigation, public education, and direct services to ensure that their goals are realized.

    New York Cares
New York Cares was founded in 1987 and has been helping manage volunteer opportunities ever since. They run programs year-round that help address issues like hunger, homelessness, educational inequity, and the environment. Their volunteers serve in schools, soup kitchens, senior centers, public parks, libraries, and other nonprofits.

New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children
In December of 2023, The Magellan Group decided to team up with NYSPCC to help support the children of NYC. Founded in 1874, The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) is the first child protection agency in the world.
