Welcome

Affluent individuals and their families deserve more than just advice on whether to buy, sell, or hold a security. Many face complex challenges, such as supporting aging parents while preserving their legacy, maintaining their lifestyle after significant life changes, or ensuring their thriving business continues to flourish. These challenges require sophisticated, personalized portfolio construction and comprehensive bespoke planning.

Greenhaven Wealth Management Group brings experienced Financial Advisors with portfolio management and financial planning skills together to help provide clients with a uniquely all-inclusive package of in-house financial services.

Special people deserve special solutions. That’s why all the work we do for our clients—whether constructing an investment portfolio or developing a strategic financial plan—is rooted in the in-depth and ongoing conversations we have with them. Our approach is not based on standardized templates or generic blueprints, but on a proprietary set of solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals.

Our portfolio management strategy is distinctive. We prefer to build portfolios using carefully selected individual stocks, bonds, and alternative investment vehicles. This approach allows us to provide appropriate diversification and better manage taxes and fees compared to traditional mutual funds and ETFs. Meanwhile, our financial planning process is equally comprehensive, covering cash management, lending, insurance, education, tax, charitable, estate, and legacy programs alongside traditional goals-based planning and risk evaluation. This integrated approach helps ensure clients can meet their short-, medium-, and long-term objectives.

Active portfolio and wealth management are central to our value proposition. We monitor markets continuously, analyzing changes and their potential impact on our clients’ financial security and progress toward their goals. Our bold, tactical, and opportunistic management style ensures our clients’ financial lives are always aligned with their aspirations. Thus, combining access to some of the world’s most seasoned investment professionals, a premier trading and execution platform, and a full spectrum of investment choices, we help clients define and strive to meet their goals while preserving and growing their wealth.

If you’re intrigued by our story and would like to explore whether our all-inclusive approach is the right fit for you and your family, we welcome the opportunity to have a conversation.

Our approach to portfolio construction and management is based on decades of detailed research and analysis focused on results rather than following a herd mentality. We build portfolios designed to help deliver diversification that match the client's needs and goals, manage taxes and expenses, and maximize control and agility so we can quickly and effectively respond to changes in the market. We do that by following four core principles:

    Icon Image
    Stress Individual Issues

Mutual funds and ETFs, while useful, often lack the control and flexibility we believe are necessary. We think there can be better ways to diversify.

    Icon Image
    Limit the Number of Issues

Our analysis shows that holding 45 to 55 individual stocks, 15 to 20 bonds, and perhaps alternative instruments, can adequately help manage risk while enabling speedier and more effective market reactions.

    Icon Image
    Keep Expenses Down

We believe that expenses and taxes are often overlooked threats to portfolio performance, and that the use of individual issues can help minimize both.

    Icon Image
    Choose Companies With Global Reach

Instead of investing in often volatile international markets to reduce currency and political risk, we seek to invest in companies that operate globally.

A Roadmap for Your Portfolio

The most productive financial plans are those that address all your hopes and goals and risks in the short, medium and long term, that help manage the challenge of market volatility, and help ensure wealth can be effectively and efficiently transferred. We look at your life as a unique mosaic of multiple elements: managing your business or career as well as savings and investments; assisting your parents and educating children in addition to your own retirement; and your values and lifestyle along with your portfolio and balance sheet. We create comprehensive strategic plans that consist of four elements:

    Icon Image
    Financial Planning

The core of all of our strategic plans remains traditional goal-based planning, risk and liability review, and active monitoring of how changes in the markets and your life impact your progress toward your goals.

Investment diversification shouldn't be your only risk management strategy: life, disability and long-term care insurance protection can help effectively protect your own and your family's future and help in planning for pre- and post-retirement healthcare costs.

Next Level Investing

Wealth has been a byproduct, not the reason for your success as an executive or entrepreneur. It was your dedication, vision, determination and grit that led to your significant financial resources in the form of stock compensation or business equity. You've had the wisdom to preserve and protect that wealth. Now that you've reached a point when you're ready to make your wealth accessible for you and your family's future, you need to engage in next level investing.

We combine our unique approach to portfolio construction with experience in developing tax-efficient methods for stock liquidity and monetizing business value to offer each of our clients a powerful yet prudent way to access, grow and preserve the wealth they've accumulated.

Some of our advanced portfolio strategies:

  • Exchange funds
  • Private credit, private equity
  • Donor advised funds, pooled income funds

At Morgan Stanley, we provide individuals and institutions access to world-class alternative investment strategies spanning private equity, real assets, private credit, hedge funds and digital assets. Life Change Monitoring

Active monitoring and management are essential for the success of your comprehensive financial planning as well as your investment portfolio. We believe your comprehensive wealth plan is a living document, that must be subject to regular review and adjustment if necessary based on how your life circumstances shift.

Every financial plan should consider your family's short-, medium- and long-term goals. The definition of these time lines, however, depends on your stage in life. Buying a weekend home might be a long-term goal when you're in your mid-career/wealth accumulation stage, but a short-term goal when you're in your late-career/lifestyle maximization stage. Meeting healthcare needs could be a medium-term goal in your late-career stage but would likely be a short-term goal in your post-retirement stage.

Life is changeable and not always predictable. Changes in your career, family dynamics, or health are apt to impact your goals and priorities. That's another reason a comprehensive wealth management plan needs to be regularly monitored and potentially adjusted rather than carved in stone and treated as permanent.

We strive for a close and trusted relationship with each of our select group of clients so we are among the first people called when life changes, for better or worse. We want to be there to help you and your family through multiple generations.

Some of our advanced wealth transfer approaches:

  • Early gifting
  • Irrevocable insurance trust
  • Credit shelter trust
  • Grantor retained annuity trust
  • Sale/loan to irrevocable grantor trust
  • Qualified personal residence trust
  • Charitable lead trust
  • Charitable remainder trust
  • Charitable giving strategies

About Carlo J. Licata

Carlo Licata believes ultra-high net worth individuals can find true investment safety by resisting the herd mentality. A Portfolio Management Director and an Alternative Investments Director, Carlo follows a distinctive investment philosophy that eschews mutual funds and exchange-traded funds and instead builds distinctive portfolios consisting of single stocks, individual bonds and alternative vehicles that provide clients with appropriate diversification and exceptional control while managing taxes and fees.

Carlo began to develop his personal investment philosophy early in his financial services career when working as an advisor with a boutique bond broker. Witnessing the impact a severe downturn in stocks had on client portfolios, he began exploring new ways to better preserve assets and manage risk. Joining Morgan Stanley in 2010, Carlo refined his approach. After 20 years in the industry his fully developed unique data-driven portfolio strategy has attracted financially sophisticated clients that include traders, hedge fund managers and corporate executives. While he remains fascinated by the intricacies of investing, Carlo has found the development of close, long-lasting relationships with clients and their families to be the most rewarding aspect of his business.

Born in Detroit, Carlo earned his B.S. in Business Management from Oakland University. He moved to Chicago to pursue his career in financial services and subsequently relocated with his wife and children to Charlotte, North Carolina. Carlo brought his passion for ice hockey and auto racing with him on the move south and has found more opportunities to pursue his love for deep-sea sport fishing.

About Kyle Wolseley

Kyle Wolseley takes pride in being a meticulous observer of the financial markets. As a Portfolio Manager for the Greenhaven Group he puts a great deal of research time and analytical effort into the construction and ongoing review of bespoke portfolios, anticipating market shifts and watching hedge fund flows that might indicate defensive adjustments while looking for possible inefficiencies and opportunities to boost productivity and effectiveness. Kyle believes that when clients put their trust in him, they and their families expect and deserve the highest level of technical attentiveness and prudence, as well as white-glove personal service.

Kyle’s diverse background in financial services informs his observations and analysis. Prior to graduating Northern Illinois University, he joined Northwestern Mutual’s internship program and graduated from that program to full-time, first as a Financial Representative, and eventually as an Associate to one of Northwestern Mutual’s top producers.
