Meet The Gordon Ramanan Group

About Philip R Gordon

Growing up, Phil watched his father’s career as a stock broker very closely. He knew that someday he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and help people and their families achieve their financial goals. Phil had a firsthand view of how the role of a stock broker evolved over the years to become the current modern financial advisor.

Phil left Madison, CT after graduating high school and headed to Ohio where attended the College of Wooster. In 1986, he graduated with a B.A. in the History of economics. After college, Phil moved to Brooklyn, NY and spent four years as a sale representative for a food company with Manhattan being his territory. After gaining valuable sales and relationship building skills, Phil moved back to the Hartford, CT area and started his financial advisor career at Dean Witter Reynolds in March of 1991.

Phil has two grown boys out on their own and he currently resides in Avon, CT with his dogs. He spent many years as a youth lacrosse coach, a sport he played through high school and college. Phil also spent four years as the treasurer of the West Avon congregational church in Avon, CT.

About Kumar Ramanan

Kumar was born in India and moved to the United States at the age of two. Coming from a family of doctors, Kumar graduated from the Loomis Chaffee school in 1984 and enrolled in Case Western Reserve University’s pre-medical program. He soon realized, however, that his true interest was in the financial markets, and he redirected his focus to the world of stocks, bonds, and financial advice.

Kumar’s career in finance started at the Hartford-based Advest Group, and continues thirty years on. In 1993, he moved to Morgan Stanley’s predecessor firm Dean Witter Reynolds. Since then, Kumar has developed a vibrant investment management and advisory practice focused on families and individuals.

Currently, Kumar lives in the south end of Hartford, and is actively involved in the lives of his three high school children. Outside of work, Kumar is passionate about traveling, food, and music.
