The Foothill Vista Investment Philosophy

Preservation - We have learned that for most investors, there is nothing more important than preserving what they have. While we are always conscious of the need to maintain an appropriate balance between growth and preservation of principal, our highest priority will always be, “Don’t Lose The Client’s Money”.

Strategy - The most effective tools we have to help generate investment returns and actively manage portfolio risk, are diversification and asset allocation. Diversification involves insuring that our investors maintain sufficient exposure to a wide range of investment styles and asset classes, that the potential failure of one style or class will never have the ability to derail our overall strategy. Asset allocation primarily involves using our knowledge, expertise, and vision, to enhance investment returns by overweighting and underweighting those individual investment styles and classes where we see the best opportunities, or the greatest risks. In our opinion, consistency of returns is one of the most ignored aspect of portfolio performance. Higher levels of disparity in a portfolio’s rate of return from one time period to the next can have a negative impact on that portfolio’s cumulative return over time. Therefore, our goal is to generate solid investment returns with the greatest possible consistency.

Research - For us, due diligence is mostly about avoiding unexpected surprises. No advisor has the ability to predict the future and there will always be events that arise without warning. We believe it is implicit in the responsibility we accept as advisors that we do everything in our power to help protect our clients from the unwanted effects of such an event. A main reason we choose to run our practice out of a large firm like Morgan Stanley is that we have access to one of the world’s best and most sophisticated research department.
