Working with You

We aim to design and enact plans that you can easily understand and follow. It all begins with our four-step process.
    Icon Image
    1. Getting To Know You
Through lengthy conversations, we work to understand what matters to you: Your family, your goals, your fears, and your visions of an ideal future. We especially welcome people grappling with major transitions: Retirements, marriages, divorces, deaths of spouses, promotions at work, or sales of a business.
    Icon Image
    2. Devising A Strategy
We next examine your financial situation: What you own, what you owe, and what you’d like to have – and what you’d like to leave behind – in the years to come. We often ask to contact your CPA and estate planning attorney in an effort to ensure our recommendations are compatible with previously drawn plans.
    Icon Image
    3. Planning & Execution
We present to you a comprehensive wealth management plan. This includes strategies designed to help you attain your goals such as: Building wealth, planning for retirement, or leaving money to your family or favorite charities. After you approve this plan, we take the steps needed to set it in motion.
    Icon Image
    4. Monitor & Review
After we launch your plan, we periodically meet – in person, over the phone or via Zoom – to track its progress. We begin this review with basic questions: Are we on pace to meet your targets? Where – if anywhere – have we fallen short? What changes, small or not-so-small, might we make to help ensure your plan returns to the right track?

About Brian J Elliott

Brian approaches his work with the same passion and discipline of the long-distance runner that he is.

He works day in and day out to monitor his performance and improve his times for completing a race.

Brian, since launching his practice in 1994, has followed a similar approach with his clients. He asks probing questions, often trying to dig beneath the black-and-white world of statements, tax returns, and balance sheets. He tirelessly investigates the nuts and bolts of each investment he recommends. He’s aware that a financial plan, however comprehensive, is a document subject to frequent revisions as times and circumstances change.

Brian also derives comfort and joy through sports. He’s a passionate fan of the New York Giants, the New York Yankees and NCAA college basketball and football. He’s quick to say he’s eager to play any sport he’s challenged to play. One of his proudest moments? Finishing the Hartford Marathon in 2011, after pulling his calf muscle in Mile 3, a testament to his refusal to surrender.

Outside the office, Brian lives in West Haven (CT). A graduate of the University of New Haven, Brian is the father of two college-age daughters. He’s also a handyman around the house, his own and those owned by others. He recently installed a fence for one of his neighbors. Over the years, Brian has also done charitable work for Habitat for Humanity, St. Martin de Porres School in New Haven, the West Haven Rotary Club, Lauralton Hall in Milford, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

About Robert V. Donnelly

Robert entered the financial services industry during the first term of President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

The Elm City Heirloom Group marks his third partnership in his 38-year career.

As an advisor, Robert works with successful professionals and business owners in all fields. All relationships begin with lengthy getting-to-know-you conversations. The relationships evolve into a consultative structure, with frequent questions posed to his clients. What often results is a relationship that later turns to a lasting friendship.

A financial plan forms the backbone of each new relationship. The plan reviews assets, liabilities, goals and dreams. It is through this back-and-forth exchange of stories and numeric information that Robert learns the story behind a client’s wealth, including what really matters besides financial comfort.

Outside the office, Robert lives in Southbury (CT) with his wife and two children. He also likes to visit a second home in New York that’s northwest of Utica, a land he affectionately dubs as “Blissful Nowheresville.”

Robert, age 63, hastens to add he’s interested in machinery with gas-powered engines. His passion is buying and restoring classic automobiles in his garage at home.

When not working at the office or tinkering with an engine, Robert has supported the United Way, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and meals for seniors through Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Southbury.

About Matthew Lubanko

As a former newspaper reporter, Matthew Lubanko takes an editor’s approach to personal finance.

Through question-and-answer sessions with clients, he works to identify clutter – the assets and debts that stand in the way of the forward motion of the story. After the clutter is mutually identified and removed, Matthew then takes on the role of a reporter drafting an outline.

How does a client want his or her story to end? How will we, working together, help attain that end? What resources will help a client’s family reach its goals? What obstacles stand in the way?

Away from the office, Matthew pretends to ski and play golf. He spends most of his free time on a bicycle, having pedaled more than 40,000 miles in the last 10 years in ten Canadian provinces and 49 U.S. states. Time on the road is time to reflect. It is also a test of one’s endurance and resourcefulness, especially when mechanical problems bedevil a bicycle that’s more than 200 miles away from the nearest bike shop.

Matthew graduated from Boston University with a BA in international relations. He earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) credential in 2011. He is the father of two adult children. He lives in Madison (CT) with his partner, Cate, and two cats, Elke and Oslo. His charitable causes include Bikes for Kids CT, The American Red Cross (giving blood), Friends of the Scranton Library (Madison, CT), and picking up litter in public places, including a recent stint with Friends of the (New Haven) Green.
