Retirement Planning

Our team will work with you to understand what your priorities are during these crucial years and implement a customized strategy for you. We will be available throughout our relationship to address any questions or concerns that might come up, as accessibility is a core tenet of our team. Whether it is planning for retirement, transitioning into retirement, or already managing your assets in retirement, our team is equipped with the resources and the knowledge to help you accomplish your personal and financial goals.

    The Psychological Transition into Retirement
Most retirement preparations focus on financial planning, but it is equally crucial to look at personal considerations and help you with easing the fear of the unknown. Given that many people overlook the psychological adjustments of retirement, we make ourselves available to you throughout the transition, after preparing you financially (and emotionally) for it over the course of our work together.

    Impact of Taxes
We greatly care about the tax-efficiencies of assets we manage. The strategies you use can have a significant impact on how much you’ll pay in taxes and may help you keep more of the returns. Each client’s situation is different but we consistently prioritize the creation of a customized tax management strategy for your investments to help you retain more of your investment returns.

    Risks to Your Retirement
Once you determine what kind of retirement you want, we will work together to take a closer look at the risks that might be standing between you and your retirement goals. Planning helps us identify the appropriate minimum rate of return required to achieve those goals, which builds a better foundation for portfolio construction and risk management. We are here to help you manage the challenges that arise along the path to achieving your goals, such as volatility or a change in circumstance.

    Understanding your Savings Vehicles
When it comes to retirement savings, the most important thing is to get started—after all, time is one of your greatest assets. Although retirement may seem far for some, it is essential to get started on planning for future living expenses, potential education funds, or travel costs. We can do this through a diligent planning process and analytical investment approach that integrates unique strategies like Alternative Investments to help improve risk/return results when appropriate.

Alternative investments are often speculative and include a high degree of risk. Investors can lose all or a substantial amount of their investment. They may be highly illiquid, can engage in leverage, short-selling and other speculative practices that may increase volatility and the risk of loss, and may be subject to large investment minimums and initial lock-ups. They may involve complex tax structures, tax inefficient investing and delays in distributing important tax information. They may have higher fees and expenses that traditional investments, and such fees and expenses can lower the returns achieved by investors.

LifeView Intelligent Planning
Planning helps us identify the appropriate minimum rate of return required to achieve goals, which builds a better foundation for portfolio construction. LifeView is a suite of planning tools with a goal-specific analysis used to create a realistic, integrated strategy that incorporates the various aspects of an individual's financial life, including investments and cash management needs. The platform provides progress-to-goals reporting and can also illustrate complex planning strategies such as methods of stock option exercise, Roth conversions and 401k early distributions.

Estate Planning Strategies
Estate planning is the process of making arrangements to pass down wealth and assets after a person's death. Creating an estate plan early is crucial as it ensures that your wishes are precisely reflected in your estate plan. Proper estate planning gives careful consideration to tax efficiency, as well as your future plans, preferences, and goals.

Family Office Resources
Ultra-high net worth individuals and families often have unique and complex planning needs. We aim to always be accessible for those needs and offer resources to proactively manage them. Morgan Stanley provides a variety of Family Office Resources that can assist our UHNW clients in assessing needs and coming up with solutions to their goals; no matter how complex they may be.

Outsourced Chief Investment Office
We connect Ultra High Net Worth Families and Foundations over $50 million to Morgan Stanley's Outsourced Chief Investment Office (OCIO). Supported by ~30 portfolio managers, this full-discretion service enables clients to focus on their broader goals while Morgan Stanley manages all—or a portion of—their investments.

I was appointed Senior Vice President by the firm in 1999. In 2005, I became a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®), received my designation as a Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) through the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania, and completed the coursework to qualify for the firm’s title as a Wealth Advisor. In 2013, I attended the Institute for Preparing Heirs at Pepperdine University. In 2014, I received my designation as a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) through the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Investment Management Consultants Association. I served as a member and past Co-Chair of the Consulting Group Advisory Board of Morgan Stanley for an 8-year term-limit, which ended 12/31/18. In the first quarter of 2016, I completed the required coursework through the Institute for Family Wealth Management and received my title as Family Wealth Advisor on April 1st. I also served on the Morgan Stanley Regional FA Council for the Central Region beginning in 2019 until that region was eliminated in a firm reorganization in early 2023. For several years I have been a member of the Investment Consultants Association (IMCA) now called the Investment & Wealth Institute, the Association of Professional Investment Consultants (APIC,) and the Portfolio Management Institute (PMI). I have also been a member of Rotary for over 25 years.

I believe success in achieving important financial goals starts with a comprehensive wealth strategy. I help our clients define what is most important to them and then formulate the strategies that are suited to their needs, whether they are accumulating wealth or investing for income, solidifying their retirement plan or devising a distribution approach that meets their lifestyle and legacy goals.
