Meet The Castle Island Group

About Stephen A Tordone

“Being a Financial Advisor is not my job. It’s who I am.”
Steve Tordone
Co-Founder of The Castle Island Group

For more than 20 years, Steve has been helping clients make sound decisions that impact virtually every area of their financial lives. His clients often face complex challenges – senior corporate executives with employer stock positions that constitute an overly large portion of their overall wealth, for example, or early employees of dynamic companies seeking to prepare for liquidity events and make the most of their equity compensation.

Steve began his financial career while still a student at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. There, he played Division 1 soccer and interned on the floor of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. After receiving his graduate degree at Springfield College where he coached soccer as a graduate assistant, Steve spent several years in institutional commercial loans sales and sports marketing before joining Merrill Lynch and building a successful advisory practice. He transitioned to Morgan Stanley in 2006 to provide clients with extensive resources that would enable them to address such issues as leaving a legacy without excessive taxation, exiting a successful business, and determining when to exercise employer stock options.

As a former coach, Steve believes in the value of ongoing education and has strived throughout his career to increase his knowledge and enhance his professional credentials. He is a Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS®) and a Morgan Stanley-credentialed Alternative Investment Director, Executive Financial Services Director, Investment Management Specialist, and
Workplace Advisor – Equity Compensation. He is also one of the relatively few Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors to receive the firm’s Family Wealth Director designation that affirms his ability to advise ultra-high net worth clients on such difficult issues as transferring wealth to the next generation, gaining agreement on philanthropic pursuits and mitigating previously unidentified sources of financial risk. In 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Steve was named to the Forbes Best-in-State Advisor rankings.

Still an avid athlete, Steve has run in several Boston Marathons. He and his wife Sonja are both active members of their community supporting a number of local charities, including Camp Harborview, Mass Mentoring and Mass General Hospital for Children where they both serve on the Advisory Committee.

Steve and Sonja reside in Hingham with their five grown and almost grown children.

About Nicholas Carosa

Nick comes from humble roots but focuses his energies on some of the most complex and sophisticated wealth and tax planning investment strategies. Born in Buffalo, NY, Nick was the child of hard-working, blue-collar parents who were determined to put all three of their children through college. Nick’s Dad worked on a GM assembly line for over thirty years and coached him at hockey, with Nick going on to play Division 1 hockey at Bentley University. At Bentley, Nick majored in accounting and later earned a Master’s Degree in Taxation. He spent the first five years of his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, primarily working on high net worth international and multi-jurisdictional tax planning, as well as on equity compensation.

While Nick enjoyed the consulting aspect of his PWC work, he found that he wanted to be more entrepreneurial, as well as to widen the scope of his financial advice. Nick has been at Morgan Stanley since April 2010. He helps entrepreneurs, early-stage employees and executives with the fortunate dilemma of rapid wealth creation via a concentrated equity position. Specifically, he focuses on sophisticated planning with respect to various equity vehicles: stock options (ISO and NQO), RSUs, PSUs, SARs, stock held outright, deferred compensation, etc. He also helps clients holding concentrated positions to hedge and protect themselves. Finally, as Nick is clearly not one to limit himself, he engages clients on other advanced planning strategies such as goals-based investing.

Nick was listed on Forbes' Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors list in 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021, as well as on Forbes’ Massachusetts Best-In-State Wealth Advisors in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He is a non-practicing CPA and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). He splits his time between the Miami Beach and Martha’s Vineyard. In his free time, he is focused on keeping the women (wife, Violet, and daughters, Sonia and Maria) in his life happy! As a family they are serious when it comes to food and enjoy beach days together. They also frequently travel to see family/friends in Buffalo, NYC, and London.

About Diez/Cucalon

Violet has overcome numerous challenges in her life, starting with moving to the US as a refugee from Ukraine with her parents at the age of two. She understands how difficult it is to achieve financial security, so she takes her responsibilities as a Financial Advisor especially seriously.

Violet’s focus on The Castle Island Group is investment management. She is a CFA® charter holder (Chartered Financial Analyst) with a deep knowledge of financial markets and an ability to anticipate and adapt to changing market dynamics. In addition, Violet started college as a Psychology major. She cares deeply about her clients and makes a concerted effort to understand their motivations and apprehensions before making recommendations or formulating strategies on their behalf. Equally important, she derives great joy from being the person who helps them achieve their goals.

After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Business Administration and an additional major in Economics (yes, she switched majors for practical reasons), Violet began her career at Barclays Capital. There, she worked with the world’s largest asset management firms to recommend equity investments and facilitate their research process. Later, she moved to HighVista Strategies, an endowment-style investment management firm where she assisted a team managing over $4 billion in assets by performing various research and project management tasks. In 2014, she joined Morgan Stanley and has found that advising individual clients has proven to be her most fulfilling career experience.

Violet resides in Boston with her husband Nick and their baby daughter, Sonia. She loves her adopted hometown and is an active member of her community. Specifically, she is a long-time volunteer at RESPOND, New England’s first domestic violence prevention agency. In addition – and as you might expect - she is an avid supporter of Ukraine’s fight for freedom.

About Sullivan Conley

Sullivan relishes complexity. His clients include senior executives with concentrated positions in their company’s stock, as well as early employees of dynamic firms seeking to make the most of their equity compensation. “My clients tend to have dozens of moving parts when it comes to their finances,” says Sullivan. “Our team takes great satisfaction in helping them keep those parts moving in the same direction.

Born and raised near Portland, Maine, Sullivan graduated from University of Southern Maine with a degree in Finance and Business Management. He interned at financial firms while still in college and soon realized that he someday wanted to build a practice that provided clients with the guidance to solidify their finances for not only themselves, but future generations.

Sullivan joined The Castle Island Group in 2017 after moving to Boston and working for an RIA that focused primarily on financial planning for biotech executives. He finds that the extensive resources offered by Morgan Stanley enable him to advise clients on virtually every aspect of their financial lives, not merely their investments.

Sullivan lives in the West End of Boston with his girlfriend Jess and their cocker spaniel Archie. He enjoys golf and skiing and hopes that someday he might be able to find the time to pursue those activities again.
