Meet The Calvin / Clayton Group

About Me

Mike’s career in the financial services industry began on the institutional fixed income and equity trading desks in September of 1987. Now with more than 3 decades of capital markets experience, including stints in corporate finance, corporate turnaround/crisis management and venture capital arenas, Mike draws on that institutional level experience to manage risk and build long-term wealth for his retail clients.

Mike’s primary areas of practice are asset management for ultra-high net worth individuals/families and the management of corporate ownership positions for executives in both the public and private arenas. For public company executives, that means structuring investment portfolios around the tax-efficient management of concentrated stock and stock option positions. For private company owners and executives, it means maximizing the value of a less liquid ownership asset and devising client-focused strategies on how to grow, protect and pass on that ownership.

In addition to holding the firm’s Senior Portfolio Manager designation, Mike earned his BBA from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and an MBA from The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He lives with his wife, Diane, in Austin, Texas and they are active with LifeAustin Church. In addition, Mike is involved with the First Tee of Greater Austin and a board member with The Central Texas chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

About Me

Guy has extensive experience in both banking and wealth management. Guy’s entrepreneurial background and knowledge of the business cycle provide him with a seasoned perspective on the issues and opportunities that business owners and entrepreneurs encounter. He advises a range of clients including professional athletes, public company executives, and multi-generational families.

Mr. Clayton began his career in the early 90’s at a community bank where he was the in-house investment and securities professional concentrating on real estate and small business lending. In 1998 he co-founded a de novo bank and holding company in Lakeway, TX, which subsequently was sold to a large regional bank. Guy’s partnership group ultimately raised capital and started a second independent bank in the Austin area, which was ultimately sold to an out of state holding company. Adept at large-scale financial transactions, Guy gained valuable experience managing the bank’s institutional bond portfolio and serving on the bank’s board of directors.

Guy earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from Texas Tech University where he lettered on the men’s basketball team. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children. He lives in Lakeway, Texas, and is very active in the community having served as a volunteer coach, a trustee for many years on the Lake Travis Independent School District, and as a board member of his church.
