Our Story

As a multi-generational wealth management team, we are dedicated to serving our clients through all of life's stages. Our mission is to have a positive, lasting impact on the lives of the families we serve. We are committed to providing perspective, experience and quality in our financial planning, investment advice and service.

We prioritize a trusting and personal relationship with our clients, getting to know their needs and concerns, both financial and emotional, their family and loved ones, and their aspirations for today, for tomorrow, and for their legacy.

Although all of our personal backgrounds are unique, we formed The Austin Group because our experiences led us to share the same wealth management philosophy - starting with a comprehensive, personalized financial plan, managing wealth through diversification and risk-managed asset allocation, and ongoing wealth education for our clients and their loved ones.

Our Clients

Our clients are busy, successful professionals, executives, business owners, and families. Active in their communities, they are typically involved in their churches, children’s or grandchildren’s activities, and various volunteer and professional organizations. Travel and recreational pursuits are also important to them.

Their primary goal is financial independence, with a predictable income stream to support their desired lifestyle, and the security of knowing they will be able to cover the cost of aging and be well-prepared for unexpected life events. With a strong work ethic of their own, they want to make sure their kids will live productive lives as financially responsible adults.

Common concerns include:

- How can I maximize company benefits, minimize taxes, and basically not leave anything on the table?
- Do my investments line up with what I am trying to accomplish?
- What if I live too long, die too soon or fall apart along the way? Will my family be okay?
- How will I know when I have enough?
- Am I taking too much risk or not enough?
- How can I make sure my family will be prepared to handle their future wealth?
- How do I pass along my values as well as my valuables?
- Have I missed anything?

Our clients appreciate our genuine concern for them and their family, and our commitment to understanding their goals and making sure they have a clearly defined plan to get there. Their confidence is enhanced by our conservative approach to investing, our consistent communication, and the many educational opportunities we provide.

New clients come to us for many reasons. Many are getting close to retirement and want to make sure everything is in place to provide their income and security for the years ahead. Others have experienced a major life event, such as the loss of a loved one, divorce or change in their employment. Some are concerned about their investments – they don’t understand what they have or whether the strategy or risk factors are appropriate for their situation. Or they realize that they aren’t getting what they need from their current advisor.

Our Investment Approach

Our team believes that successful investing begins with a financial plan developed after a wide-ranging discussion of our clients' financial history and goals. It is important to us to fully understand your needs, wants, time horizon, and risk comfort level. Only then can we make appropriate recommendations for your investment portfolio.

Each of our clients' investment strategies are specifically designed and customized to meet the personal goals we have established and align with their risk tolerance. We use the asset allocation models developed by Morgan Stanley's Global Investment Committee as a guide, but ultimately the mix of equities, fixed income, alternative investments, and cash is tailored to each client's unique needs.

We know that the financial markets can be an emotional roller coaster from time to time. Committed to our clients' long-term success, we help manage emotional reactions through revisiting the financial plan and ensuring their investment strategy is still in line with their goals and comfort level.

Investing in stocks is an important aspect of growing wealth and outpacing inflation over the long term. Equities, both public and private, domestic and international, can be used to grow capital as well as provide tax-advantaged income.

Fixed income securities can provide income and wealth preservation. Our experience in changing interest rate environments and our diversification strategies enable us to manage the credit and interest rate risk.

When appropriate, alternative investments provide an opportunity to enhance returns and help reduce risk by offering lower correlations to traditional investments like stocks and bonds.

Careful monitoring and periodic rebalancing are important aspects of managing our clients' investments toward their individual goals. We make adjustments as needed due to changes in our clients' lives and economic conditions.

The 4D Process

Tab Image
Our four-step 4D process enables us to provide clients with a detailed assessment of their current situation as well as a comprehensive, prioritized plan designed to fulfill their purpose and achieve their goals. We provide initial and ongoing guidance so clients are able to see if they continue to be on track to reaching their goals.
Fit Conversation
During our initial conversation, we attempt to determine whether our philosophy and services are a fit for your situation and if we should embark on the 4D process together.
Discover
Our discovery meeting consists of a personal conversation about your goals, needs, and wants, and data-gathering about your current situation. Our success depends on how well we have understood your wants and needs. Your investment portfolio will reflect your time horizon, cash flow needs and tolerance for risk.
Design
We review the outcome of our financial analysis and design customized solutions and recommendations for you. A thorough discussion includes a review of potential rewards, risks and anticipated expenses as well as specific action steps. Upon your approval, we provide the necessary documents to open new accounts, transfer assets and implement the agreed-upon investment strategy.
Deploy
As we deploy your strategy, we keep you informed of the account set-up and transfer process, review your statements, and ensure the proposed strategies and action steps are understood. We also establish the frequency of your strategy meetings.
Direct
We use regularly scheduled strategy meetings to update your financial plan with any changes in your family, economic, legal and tax, and market conditions to keep directing you toward your goals. We address questions or concerns you may have and make any necessary changes to your plan and portfolio.
