Clients

The largest Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management team in Utah and Idaho, we work with a select clientele of fewer than 50 ultra high net worth families and institutions. By focusing all our efforts on the needs of a relatively small number of clients, we are able to develop a robust understanding of their individual needs and can deliver an extraordinary level of personalized service.

Nearly all of our clients created their wealth by building and monetizing a successful business, or a series of successful businesses. In many cases, we have served as their Advisors every step of the way. We have connected them to the professionals they needed to grow their business and explore exit strategies. About Eric Smith

A founding partner of The 9990 Group, Eric Smith oversees a team of experienced professionals who provide wealth management advice, strategies and services to highly accomplished individuals and their families, family offices, foundations and endowments. Working to create enduring and productive relationships, Eric and his team craft fully customized solutions to address the complex challenges of managing generational wealth. These holistic solutions encompass every aspect of his clients’ financial lives, including pre- and post-monetization planning, investment management, banking, lending, philanthropy and an extensive range of lifestyle advisory services.

Eric joined JP Morgan Private Bank and established himself as a valued advisor to affluent families throughout Utah and the Mountain States. He was responsible for JPMorgan’s Private Bank office in Utah before bringing their practice to Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in 2021.

Eric graduated from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management in 2011, earning a B.S. in management with an emphasis on finance. Seeking to expand the depth and range of advice he can offer his clients, Eric earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP®) certification in 2015. He is fluent in Spanish as well as English.

Eric lives in Utah with his wife, Nicole, and their three children. As a native to the Rockies, he enjoys skiing, golfing and biking.

About Brian Swenson

A founding partner of The 9990 Group, Brian Swenson leads a team of experienced financial professionals who deliver highly customized strategies to affluent individuals, family offices, foundations and endowments. Serving a select clientele across the Rocky Mountain region, Brian advises across equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and alternative investments

Having worked with successful entrepreneurs for nearly two decades, Brian serves as a connector and advocate for the team’s clients. Combining the talents on the team with his personal network and the vast resources of Morgan Stanley, he provides clients with guided access to the advice, intelligence or capabilities needed to accomplish their objectives. His goal is to help them create and implement investment strategies to support the lives they envision for themselves and their families.

Prior to bringing his practice to Morgan Stanley, Brian spent 16 years at the J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Salt Lake City, Denver, San Francisco and London. Having worked with an elite global clientele of affluent families throughout his wealth management career, he brings a unique perspective to the service of his clients. Brian began his professional career working as a Senior Assistant Controller for the JW Marriott Camelback Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Brian earned a B.S. in management from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. He is an active member of his church, serving as a mentor to several different groups. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, sports and traveling with his wife and three children.

About Jesse Bohannon

Jesse Bohannon brings years of institutional and individual investment management experience to the service of the team’s ultra high net worth clients. Jesse’s primary focus is on crafting highly customized investment strategies based on the precise needs, goals and values of each family or individual. He enjoys discussing the relative merits of various opportunities, and supports client investing across multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income and alternative investments.

Jesse graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in statistics in 2015. He began his career in 2016 at Jefferies in New York City on the equity merger arbitrage trading desk. After moving back to Salt Lake City, he held various investment-related positions at Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan, before returning with the team to Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in 2021

Jesse is a Utah native who enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his wife, Madison. An avid racing enthusiast, he also rebuilds and races vintage sports cars.

About Charlotte Painter

Drawing on eight years of financial industry experience in increasingly responsible positions, Charlotte Painter supports the team’s Advisors in creating and maintaining highly customized wealth management plans. While contributing to an extensive range of client-oriented services, she has a particular passion for working on financial and estate planning and strategies, helping individuals and families structure their wealth in line with their lifetime goals and long-term legacies.

Charlotte began her career at Zion Wealth Advisors after earning her B.A. and MBA from Southern Utah University. Initially focused on providing highly personalized client service to high net worth clients, she was promoted quickly into financial planning and client service managerial positions. She moved to Integrated Financial Group, on to JPMorgan Chase and came with the team to Morgan Stanley. Always looking to expand the quality and range of advice she can offer the team’s clients, Charlotte earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP®) designation in 2021.

A Utah native, Charlotte loves to be outdoors, hiking with her dogs or snowboarding.

About Jack Caswell

Jack Caswell joined The 9990 Group in 2023 and brings a powerful FinTech background to the team. In his role, Jack leads the team’s client aggregation and customized reporting through his experience with Addepar. He also supports Brian and Jesse on the investment desk and Jordan on concierge client service.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Jack contributed to the rapid growth of Mirador, an early-stage financial services firm based in Connecticut. As one of the founding analysts at Mirador in their Salt Lake City office, Jack was responsible for and operated the Addepar performance reporting application for multiple RIAs and family offices, servicing ultra-high net worth clients across the United States and Australia. Jack co-led the integration between UBS Financial Services and Addepar, managing a team of analysts to ensure a seamless onboarding experience to the Addepar platform. He enjoys creating bespoke, consolidated reporting for individuals and family offices with complex balance sheets.

Jack gradated from Syracuse University with a double major in Finance and Business Management. Originally from Vermont, Jack enjoys backpacking, skiing, and rock climbing in the Utah mountains.

About Jordan Gerlach

Jordan Gerlach joins The 9990 Group as its newest analyst. He previously supported Goldman Sachs SMA strategies through portfolio reconciliation, answering client and portfolio manager inquiries, and overall business scalability. Jordan supported the implementation and the continued maintenance of clients from an array of custodians including Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, Raymond James, Schwab, BAML, etc. He was in that role for almost 3 years and developed a deep understanding of how an asset manager and other custodians operate. In that role he discovered his passion for problem solving and drive for solutioning client needs and looks forward to bringing these qualities to the 9990 Group.
 
Jordan is originally from Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University where he majored in Finance and minored in Economics. He led the snowboard club which had over 400 members and coordinated snowboard trips across the eastern United States and Canada. He was also a member of the Penn State Asset Management Group which focused on Derivatives trading.
 
Outside of work, Jordan enjoys snowboarding, golfing, and camping.
