Global Firm, Local Team, Personal Movie

To make a movie, directors take thousands of short pieces of film and stitch them together into one, cohesive, motion picture, a montage.

As financial advisors, The Montage Group does the same with all the crucial elements of your financial life — from planning to investment implementation and everything in between. You and your family are the stars. Like any good movie, there will be ebbs and flows, new characters, unfolding challenges, medical cliffhangers and ultimately, an ending that may or may not include a sequel for the next generation.

On the right is a partial list of services we address. The five below are the most requested:

1. Private Markets
2. Equity Compensation
3. Tax-Smart Strategies
4. Retirement/Generational Planning
5. Next Steps for Solely Responsible Savvy Women

Let’s illustrate with our “Solely Responsible Savvy Women” niche. Whether you are single, separated, or divorced; impacted by illness or death; or simply need to take control of the household finances, we answer the question, “What happens next?” We remind you that you are resilient, tenacious and uniquely successful; and that it’s okay to acknowledge that you may not have the time, desire or knowledge to make pressing financial decisions on your own. These are new complexities. And we’re here to work with you every step of way.

The Montage Group is a six-person, multigenerational team with many areas of experience. We simplify the complex, regularly update your storyline and move you financially forward. Our goal is for you to feel confident about your planning and investing, so ultimately you can do all the things you want, and live “happily ever after.”

Working With You

As your dedicated wealth management team, our role is to tailor a personalized financial strategy which fits your needs. In our experience working with clients, we have developed a step-by-step approach to service.
    Icon Image
Step 1: Determining Your Financial Objectives
Success means something different to each client. We begin each relationship by using interview techniques to thoroughly review your financial resources and liabilities, understand your short and long-term investment objectives, and assess an acceptable level of risk.
    Icon Image
Step 2: Developing Your Investment Plan
We focus on designing portfolios to help potentially enhance returns, potentially lower overall portfolio volatility and position them to take advantage of timely opportunities. We believe many investors fall short of their goals because they spend more time plan-ning a summer vacation than formulating a long-term investment strategy. By developing customized financial roadmaps and using proactive strategies to help keep progress on track, we feel clients end up with a high likelihood of success of achieving their goals.
    Icon Image
Step 3: Implementation of Your Plan
Once your plan is approved, Montage Group helps you implement your plan by recommending world-class investment managers that are most appropriate for your needs, complement each other and work toward the goals we have established. We also coordinate strategies with your other professional advisors to help make sure we are working as a team for your benefit.
    Icon Image
    Step 4: Ongoing Portfolio Review
Our clients enjoy regular progress reviews when we review investment performance and assess progress in the context of your evolving needs and stage of life. Of course, since goals tend to change as time goes on we often revisit this entire process to make sure we are on track.

Where We Do Business

We repeatedly see these 4 topics come across for most of our clients and prospective clients. If you are interested in any of these below topics, please don't hesitate to reach out.

    Retirement

When we work with clients looking to retire, we focus on and help you work through several key steps.

    1. We help you envision your retirement, including any anticipated discretionary and non-discretionary expenses.
    2. An explanation of the source of income to fund those expenses.
    3. A discussion of risks that could throw the plan off-track. These could be healthcare risks, market risks, and many others.
    4. One of the more nuanced steps is the possibility of outliving your savings, this will be a discussion of a potential need for a source of lifetime income.

    Equity Compensation

Equity Compensation can be an extremely complicated and a difficult asset to fully utilize. The Montage Group has the following plan to help understand it and take full advantage of it.

    1. Understand the award type and how many they expect to receive/vest in the upcoming year. Common forms included stock options, restricted stock units (RSUs), or Employee Stock Purchase Plans (ESPPs).
    2. Determining the value of the equity compensation, and how the price of their company stock immediately drives the value of their benefit.
    3. Coming to terms with market volatility. Most people tend to concern themselves with the day-to-day swings of stock prices, the best thing to do is to remember the long-term plan.

    Being Smart About Taxes

Taxes can be a significant "fee" that reduce investment returns. Careful tax planning can save our clients a significant amount by utilizing tax efficient strategies to help reduce tax burdens on investments.

    Legacy Planning

Legacy planning is a comprehensive approach to managing your personal and financial affairs during your lifetime, and dispersing your wealth after your death. Similar to retirement planning, legacy planning at the Montage Group entails similar key steps.

    1. Identifying your goals, whatever they may be.
    2. Understanding your financial situation, i.e. cashflows, income, fixed payments, and many more.
    3. Creating a vision of your legacy. Where or to whom do you want your hard earned wealth to go? Legacy planning is not just for older people. It can be done for anyone at any age.

Meet Montage Group of Silicon Valley

About Greg Royse

Greg is Founder and Managing Partner of the Montage Group. He grew up in Silicon Valley, which afforded him the opportunity to be surrounded by world-changing start-ups, affluent individuals, and venture capitalists. He learned firsthand about the multi-dimensional aspects of accumulating, preserving, and distributing wealth, which he now shares with his clients.

One of Greg’s many areas of focus is Equity Compensation. He enjoys educating both novices and veterans on how to maximize the value of what is often a large portion of their net worth. This includes the many ways to diversify out of different holdings and the value of having a well thought out plan. Providing resources and investment strategies to address the often-confusing tax implications are woven into clients’ financial plans.

Greg’s first job was pulling weeds in 3rd grade at the local shopping center. From there, he refereed various sports activities, worked at a local campground, and mastered all facets of the food service industry. These experiences cultivated a strong work ethic which enabled him to save his first few nickels and begin his investment journey. After graduating from UCLA with dual degrees in economics and business, Greg went straight into the financial advising business. He has been helping families achieve their goals ever since.

At Morgan Stanley, he holds the titles of Senior Vice President and has earned Morgan Stanley designations of Workplace Advisor, Family Wealth Advisor and Senior Portfolio Management Director – all of which required extensive advanced training. And quite often the firm calls on him for training many top advisors on various advanced strategies.

Greg and his wife Tricia split their time between The Bay Area and San Diego. They have two adult daughters both of whom are seeking advanced degrees. Greg enjoys spending time outdoors—especially on the golf course and soccer field. He is an enthusiast for many sports and plans to get back into youth coaching someday, but for now gives back through The Positive Coaching Alliance in addition to various other charitable organizations.

About Danielle Aldama

Danielle has always been a planner.

She grew up in Silicon Valley, fortunate to attend Archbishop Mitty High School, which gave her a better understanding of lifestyle disparity. Be it financially or emotionally, many of her classmates struggled while others did not. She fit somewhere in between, developing a certain empathy for both. She realized, she says, that even those who seemed to have it all, often did not. “Empathy” would later become a fundamental part of her Financial Planning practice.

Danielle also planned carefully for her athletic routines and getting into college. Until early adulthood, she competed across the country in world class artistic roller-skating competitions. At Santa Clara University, she graduated Magna Cum Laude, studying business and economics. She paid for college almost exclusively via grants, scholarships, and student loans, and is now a member of the University’s Alumni Association.

Her first job was as a financial advisor at a Trust and Investment firm, reading more estate planning documents than one could ever imagine. In 2006, she connected with Greg Royse, and a partnership was born.

Danielle’s knowledge about financial planning is deep and wide. She holds many industry certifications, which reflects her drive to constantly learn and better the lives of clients and their families. Please see below for explanations about those certifications.

She and her husband have four children and a miniature Bernedoodle named Tilly. The family attends and participates in multiple sporting events, with hockey, soccer, and softball topping their list. In 2024, she was named to the prestigious award of the Forbes Top Women Wealth Advisors Best-In-State.

About Mike Krigel

Mike has the Morgan Stanley designation of “Family Wealth Advisor.” As such, he works with clients who want to protect and grow their wealth across generations, based on their family’s goals and values. It’s an area he’s both passionate about, and sensitive to, given the highly personal aspects of a family’s life.

Part of the process may include Mike facilitating family conversations. Nothing is assumed. He speaks about the complexities of transferring wealth, creates a safe space to discuss differing perspectives, and ultimately advises on specific investment and estate planning strategies. All of which is designed to perpetuate meaningful and engaged lives.

Every conversation is approached with respect – and gentle humor. He’s not above telling bad dad jokes or offering awful puns. He recognizes that talking about life’s “what-ifs” can be anxiety provoking. Humor, he likes to say, can put people at ease, and can help build trust.

Mike was recruited by Morgan Stanley in 2009. Prior, he worked in Silicon Valley and had a career in journalism and media management. This, among other things, taught him how to distill complex concepts into easily accessible ideas, a skill quite useful in his current role.

He was born and raised in Kansas City. He spent most summers working at his grandfather’s powdered egg facility. He went west for college, undergrad – with wild hair – at UC Berkeley, and MBA – with short hair – at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

He's an avid cyclist, swimmer, and yoga enthusiast (the latter allows for the two former) and has served on several non-profit boards. His wife Patty is a psychologist. They live in Palo Alto, where they raised their four sons and many dogs.

While not working, Justin enjoys hiking, cycling, rock climbing, basketball, tennis, and golf. About Vanessa Zapanta

Vanessa started working while in high school as a salesclerk at the bag and purse company Coach. She describes her younger self as “super shy” and was quite tentative when approaching customers. Over the years, though, she learned how to engage and connect with her customers by listening and asking questions about themselves.

In 2012, and for the next nine years, Vanessa worked as a bank teller for Citibank. While still there as a full-time employee, she completed her bachelor’s degree in business from Cal State East Bay. She had two goals at the time: Learn more about the financial industry. And help her family overcome financial hardships. She successfully did both, creating a very strong work ethic.

All of which impressed the Montage Group at Morgan Stanley, which she joined in 2021 as a Client Service Associate. When clients call, she’s likely the one who picks up, and it seems, always with a smile, and often creating meaningful connections.

Outside of work, Vanessa loves spending time with her French bulldogs, Milo and Beau. She’s obsessed with traveling around Europe and learning more about its history, culture and architecture. She also loves being in nature and visiting national parks like Sequoia and Yosemite.

About Jessalyn Simon

Jessalyn was raised by hard-working immigrants in San Jose who didn’t have a lot of money. Because of this, it was a priority for her to raise cash in every way possible including selling candy bars and homemade lunches at school. With interest in the kitchen, she began working in fast food to help the family’s finances. When she was 21, her mom passed away, and her income became even more crucial to her dad and siblings. Working her way up the food chain, she became a manager at McDonald’s, followed by a couple other restaurants. After completing her Hospitality Management program at Mission College, she was hired by Facebook/Meta cafes where she was a Head Chef.

Over the next 13 years and working several jobs at once, she decided it was time to try something else. That “something else” turned out to be going back to school. She enrolled and completed an intensive, one-year technology training program with Mission College called “Year Up” where she gained experience in Data Analytics and Program Management. She was then matched for an internship at E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley in Menlo Park. In 2024, she was introduced to the Montage Group, where she is now a Client Service Associate.

In her spare time, Jessalyn delights in spending time with her family, dog Milo, and baby tortoises Raphael and April. Jessalyn enjoys working out, participating in group fitness classes, and going to the beach. She also likes to satisfy her sweet tooth with tasty desserts. No surprise for a former chef. Her current favorite is the Lady M chocolate cake, but that can always change. Be sure to ask when you talk with her.
