My Story and Services

Krista Girrbach has been helping clients pursue their financial goals as a Financial Advisor since 1989. She is a First Vice President, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® and Chartered Retirement Plans Specialists®. She is a qualified Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing her own personalized and defined strategies.

Krista offers personalized wealth management strategies to affluent individuals and their families including but not limited to executives, retirees, doctors, farmers and business owners. She takes great pride in functioning as a boutique like business within the confines of one of the world’s leading wealth management and advisory companies. Krista helps clients create and maintain multi-generational wealth planning strategies based on each client’s financial goals and objectives. She believes every family should have the benefit of a group of dedicated advisors working together to provide a fully integrated approach to wealth management. Our clients entrust their financial future to us.

From a very young age, Krista was a great friend who listened and offered sound advice. Her friends trusted and knew that the conversation would remain confidential. Krista has always had a desire to help others succeed. She has great problem solving skills and really enjoys talking through people’s concerns and creating viable solutions. Her personal mission is to help make a positive difference in the lives of everyone she meets. Krista grew up on a farm in Ida, Michigan where her family raised and showed World quality Appaloosa horses. Being raised on a farm taught Krista a great work ethic, responsibility, discipline and other valuable life skills. Competing on a National circuit showing Appaloosa horses that her family bred and raised became a passion. Krista has won over 50 National and World Champion equestrian titles and numerous high point awards. When she began studying at the University of Michigan she wanted to become a doctor to help people. She was active in the Sigma Kappa Sorority and served as the Philanthropy chair. Upon completion of her sophomore year, she competed and won the title of Miss Appaloosa America. This honor required Krista to take a year off from her studies at the University of Michigan to serve as an ambassador for the Appaloosa Horse Club all over the world! It was a wonderful experience which influenced Krista’s decision to pursue a career in business upon returning to the University of Michigan. Krista graduated with honors earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Krista believes in giving back to her community. She is a member of the Adrian Kiwanis Club, has served as the President and currently serves on the board of directors of the Adrian Kiwanis Foundation. She is a member of Crossroads Community Church in Adrian and was previously on the ProMedica Bixby/Herrick Hospital Foundation Board and the Monroe County Humane Society Board. Krista has a strong faith, enjoys riding and showing her Appaloosa Horses, biking, hiking, boating, traveling and she loves spending time outdoors enjoying nature! Krista and her husband, Michael, have two children, Lori and Matthew. They live in the Irish Hills in Michigan and also enjoy spending time at their home in De Tour Village in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula.

Welcome to our life navigator

One of our goals is to help our clients navigate different life events. Here you will find a wide range of content and materials covering a variety of life events and milestones that you might face.

    Birth
Welcoming a child into the family is a joyous occasion for everyone—for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins and other extended family members. As a trusted advisor to our clients, we play a critical role in helping you plan and prepare for the financial components that a new child introduces into your lives—everything from planning for the costs associated with birth, adoption or surrogacy; anticipating unexpected medical expenses; understanding gifting requirements; preparing for child care and planning for educational expenses.

    Education
Education is a major investment and expense for most of our clients—one that often requires years of careful, advanced planning. As educational costs continue to rise—from primary education through undergraduate, graduate and professional schools—we can help you approach the range of educational expenses, such as tuition, extension programs and advanced professional training, with appropriate funding strategies for your particular situations.

    Business/Work
Many of our clients have complex business arrangements, from executive-level employment situations to various levels of investment in a multitude of business ventures—from startups to established enterprises. As their Financial Advisor, we play a critical role in helping them navigate the complexities of business ownership, investment and associated activities such as selling, divesting or planning for succession.

Typically, we encounter three primary scenarios with our clients:

    - Starting a business
    - Funding a business
    - Exiting a business

    Marriage
There are few events more exciting than when our client decides to align their life with the person they love. Of course, there are conversations you should have with your partner before tying the knot. One of the most important is about money—how you will make it, save it, spend it and invest it. In addition, helping fund an adult child’s wedding is a goal for many parents (and grandparents). As your Financial Advisor, we can play an important role in helping you plan for these milestones and guiding your conversations.

    Post-Career
Today's 65-year-olds have a high likelihood of living until their mid-80s, and it's not uncommon anymore to reach substantially beyond that. That means you need to plan for a retirement that will span two decades and potentially much more. Longer retirements are great outcomes, but also place a great deal of stress on a household’s finances. As your Financial Advisor, we make sure to put a plan in place so that you are able to take on any curveball retirement may throw at you.

    Death
Dealing with death is never easy. Aside from coping with the loss of a loved one, legal matters also require immediate attention, including administration of the estate. Though it may be hard for individuals to talk about estate planning because of the heartache, addressing it promptly is crucial to saving both time and money, and to minimizing family conflict or confusion. Passing away without a will, known as intestacy, means the state determines how the deceased’s assets will be distributed, and this may not be consistent with the family’s wishes. Proceedings can also be painful and costly for the family.

We believe that is better to plan ahead to ensure that your wishes and your will are followed. A proactive approach to estate planning as a family is better than a reactive one.

1Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
