My Story

Choosing a financial advisor is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. Whether you’re a professional in the prime of your life, or someone in or nearing retirement – your money needs to be working as hard as possible for you and your family.

Doing this alone is a great burden, especially in a modern investing landscape characterized by constant change accelerated by advancing technology, changes in regulation, and new investment solutions. This is why you need a financial plan that has nuance and addresses your personal circumstances within the context of the greater market environment.

Realizing lifetime financial objectives requires long-term collaboration. I pride myself on establishing relationships that are built to last. I approach my client's by listening, and picking up on the details of their unique situation. Given my 15 years of experience in financial planning for high net worth clients, I understand how to synthesize your goals with the complexities of investing to create a transparent financial roadmap for you to feel confident through each of life's stages.

I am also deeply invested in Athens and the surrounding communities of Commerce, Jefferson, Braselton and Hoschton where I am committed to offering the people here the financial advice they need to work towards success. I have genuine compassion and respect for my clients, and I strive to bring boutique values while having access to the resources of a leading global financial institution in Morgan Stanley.

    Tax-Efficient Strategies
Taxes act as a drag on your investment performance that can be heavier than any fee you pay. But they might also be the easiest to reduce, with the right strategies in place. Morgan Stanley Total Tax 365 offers a full spectrum of tax-efficient solutions to help mitigate the tax drag on your portfolio—so you can keep more of what you earn and improve after-tax returns.

    Concentrated Positions
Often clients with substantial net worth have accumulated large single stock positions. Our team leverages the Morgan Stanley platform and our unique expertise to help clients navigate this reality.

Generally speaking our solutions fall into these categories, easily remembered by the acronym H.O.P.E.S:

    Alternative Investments
Alternative Investments go beyond the stocks and bonds of the traditional 60/40 portfolio. Diverse and versatile, they can help grow and protect your wealth and can shape your portfolio to fit your needs. Alternatives may help you diversify your holdings, so you feel less tied to the ups and downs of the public market- potentially lowering volatility and mitigating downturns. With decades of experience and immense scale, Morgan Stanley is an industry leader in alternatives, resulting in 75% of our fund offerings either being first-look or exclusive to the firm. As an investor, this makes Tennessee Valley Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley the firm of choice for high-net worth investors.

    Private Markets
Many of today’s companies stay private longer, with more of their valuation being created before they become publicly traded. Morgan Stanley Private Markets connects a broad network of potential private investors in an accessible ecosystem, allowing eligible clients to buy and sell securities of private companies.

    Philanthropy
Morgan Stanley offers a variety of charitable solutions for clients. These include:

-Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): With a DAF clients make irrevocable, nonrefundable contributions of cash or securities. The assets in the DAF can grow free of federal income tax, and the donor can suggest when and which qualified charities should receive grants.

-Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): Clients who are 70 ½ or older can make annual QCDs up to $105,000 directly from their IRA to a qualifying public charity. The client will not owe any federal income tax on QCDs.

-U.S. Legacy Income Trusts: The trusts provide Donors contributing cash and/or acceptable securities with the opportunity to avoid recognition of capital gains on contributions of appreciated assets. They also provide monthly distributions of tax-advantaged income for life up to ten individual income beneficiaries designated by the donor. Upon passing of the last income beneficiary, the remainder will be distributed to the donor’s qualified public charities.

-Charitable Remainder Trust: this is an irrevocable trust that is often used for income tax planning and is designed to benefit both individuals and charity. The term of the non–charitable interest may be for up to 20 years or the lives of the individuals – typically the donor and spouse. Contributions to the CRT can qualify for a charitable gift or estate tax deduction and the donor typically receives a charitable income tax deduction for lifetime trusts. 12Participating in a new issue/syndicate is subject to availability. IPOs are highly speculative and may not be appropriate for all investors because they lack a stock-trading history and usually involve smaller and newer companies that tend to have limited operating histories, less-experienced management teams, and fewer products or customers. Also, the offering price of an IPO reflects a negotiated estimate as to the value of the company, which may bear little relationship to the trading price of the securities, and it is not uncommon for the closing price of the shares shortly after the IPO to be well above or below the offering price.

13Structured Investments are complex and not appropriate for all investors. An investment in structured investments involves risks. These risks can include but are not limited to: fluctuations in the price, level or yield of underlying asset(s), interest rates, currency values and credit quality, substantial loss of principal, limits on participation in appreciation of underlying asset(s), limited liquidity, credit risk, and/or conflicts of interest. Many structured investments do not pay interest or guarantee a return above principal at maturity. Investors should read the security’s offering documentation prior to making an investment decision.

14Investing in the market entails the risk of market volatility. The value of all types of investments may increase or decrease over varying time periods. The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable or impact investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability and impact criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
