My Story and Services

As a second-generation Financial Advisor, Derek always knew from a young age that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. He was lucky enough to work with his father for 15 years before he retired in 2020. Derek continues to draw from those experiences that he developed over those years to effectively manage his wealth management practice. He listens carefully to what is most important to each family, so he can develop a customized financial plan and investment portfolio to address their unique goals and circumstances.

A graduate of Denison University with a degree in Economics, Derek joined his family’s practice in 2005. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to work for several firms, including Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan. Now as a member of the Morgan Stanley family, he combines his background in economics with the world-class investment management tools of his firm to effectively analyze the market environment from a distinct perspective, while providing appropriate recommendations to each client.

Over the years, Derek has developed a holistic approach to help clients better understand and manage their total financial picture. He believes investing should be based on a strategy that is easy to understand and easy to implement. He works meticulously to provide clients with clarity and confidence about their finances, so they can invest their time on the people and passions that bring their lives joy.

Today, Derek enjoys serving his clients and becoming their “go to” person for anything financial. He calls Whittier his home, where he lives with his wife, Kimberly, and their children, Jayden, Camryn and Landon. Derek is a strong believer in paying it forward and is an active board member of both the Interfaith Food Center and the Boys and Girls club of Whittier. Outside of the office, he loves to golf and coach his children’s sports teams, a rewarding experience for him and his children, as well as the others on the teams.
