As a top industry professional, Debra provides highly personalized advice to busy professionals and multi-generational families, with an emphasis on financial planning and tax efficiency, working in conjunction with legal and accounting advisors. She is privileged to work with a select group of clients whom she considers family as she has worked with many for over 30 years.

Debra is dedicated to building strong relationships with her clients by understanding their family dynamic, and life and financial goals. She helps her clients navigate important life events such as births, deaths, marriages, divorce, retirement, and estate planning. It gives her great joy to help her clients succeed financially, knowing they can take better care of the people they love, spend more time pursuing activities they enjoy, and support the causes that are most important to them. She continues to refine her practice to focus more on relationship building and helping families create their personal legacies that extend from one generation to the next.

Experience

Debra brings a lifetime of experience to her role as Vice President, Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Debra began her career at Merrill Lynch in 1986 where she completed an extensive training program and gained a wide range of experience in all aspects of wealth management. She proudly served as a Merrill Lynch Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor for 24 years, guiding her clients through numerous market cycles, and through each situation, helped them maintain the focus and diligence required to help achieve their long-term goals in any market environment. At Merrill Lynch Debra was awarded the prestigious title of Chairman’s Club.

Debra joined Morgan Stanley in 2010 to access the firm’s global resources and first-rate research capabilities. She made the strategic decision to set up her practice within the firm’s Wealth Management Headquarters so her clients would have immediate access to the firm’s thought leaders and analysts.

Debra graduated from Syracuse with a degree in Economics and has earned the prestigious industry designation of Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor. An education advocate, Debra remains committed to advanced learning for herself, her clients and the community. She sits on the advisory board of the Business School at Roger Williams University, where she received a degree in Marketing.

Debra’s passion for helping clients is equaled only by her dedication to her community and giving back. She currently sits on the Advisory Board of Dubin Breast Center Mt. Sinai Hospital. She and her husband are on the Visiting Committee for Thoracic Oncology at the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, a cause near to her heart as she lost her father to lung cancer. She previously sat on the Westchester Country Club Board of Governors, where she spends a lot of time entertaining clients and family. As an active philanthropist, Debra has unique insight and experience with respect to charitable giving, which she incorporates into her planning process when working with high net worth individuals interested in supporting causes about which they are passionate.

Debra has a strong commitment to her family. When she’s not working with her clients, or giving back to the community through the charitable organizations she’s affiliated with, Debra enjoys spending time with her family. She is happily married to attorney Robert Kaplan and has 3 adult sons -Alex, Laurence, and Allen. She is an avid skier and also enjoys bicycling and has participated in international bicycle trips in Thailand, Laos, India, Myanmar, Chile and Spain.

About Laurence Gerace

Laurence has been working at Morgan Stanley in various roles since 2017. After completing an extensive Financial Advisor Associate training program at Morgan Stanley, he joined Debra’s team as a Financial Advisor. He currently holds a Series 7, 66, Financial Planning Specialist designation, and NMLS (mortgage) professional licenses. He works with clients to create financial plans and tailors’ strategies in ever-changing market and economic environments.  
Laurence studied Economics and Computer Science at the University of Southern California achieving Dean’s List. He enjoys going to the gym, golfing, skiing/snowboarding, surfing, and going on hikes with his German Shepherd. He also has a keen interest in helping solve climate change, volunteering, charitable giving and has previously worked for a non-for-profit writing articles that combine the topic of decarbonization with economics and finance.
Laurence enjoys building meaningful and long-lasting relationships. He derives his success on the satisfaction and success of his clients.

Ann has over 25 years of financial services industry experience. About Mary Gelfand

Mary Gelfand is a vice president and financial planning director, serving Morgan Stanley’s Wealth Management offices in Westchester County, NY and Fairfield County, CT. She is responsible for helping financial advisors with their clients’ and prospects’ financial planning needs.

Mary began her career in financial services in 2003 and joined Morgan Stanley in 2024. Prior to her current position, she worked for Fidelity Investments, Smith Barney, and Ameriprise.

Mary graduated from the University of Florida and holds her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation. Mary lives in Westchester County, NY with her husband and children. Outside of work, Mary is an advocate for children’s healthcare and serves on the Family Advisory Council for the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NY.

About Chris Smith

Chris Smith is an Executive Director and Head of Morgan Stanley’s Trust Services Group. As a 30-year employee of Morgan Stanley, Chris is responsible for maintaining the “Open Architecture” trustee platform, which consists of thirteen third-party trust companies who can serve in a fiduciary, agency or custodial role for ultra-high-net worth client trust accounts. Chris and the Trust Services Group help Advisors, clients, prospects and the professional community understand the corporate trustee services available through Morgan Stanley and how our corporate trustee partners can be used to provide fiduciary solutions for clients. This involves reviewing trust document and statements as well as analyzing family dynamics. Chris then uses this information to recommend one or more of the firm’s third-party corporate trustee partners to possibly serve as trustee, co-trustee or administrative agent for a client trust account.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley (Dean Witter), Chris worked in the Retirement Plans department of Prudential Securities and prior to that the District Agency department of Prudential Insurance Company. Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication/Journalism and Psychology from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. He lives in Saratoga Springs, NY with his wife Sharon and two boys, Ryan and Michael and has a passion for golf, skiing and horse racing.

About Angelo Loumbas

Angelo is the Family Office Resources Generalist for Family Office Resources in the New York Metro and New England regions. Angelo provides specialized knowledge to ultra-high net worth clients and their Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors across a broad range of family wealth management issues, including family governance/dynamics, wealth education, strategic estate and financial planning, philanthropy management, lifestyle advisory and customized asset allocation and portfolio construction. Angelo has over twenty-five years experience advising wealthy families, business owners, and philanthropic organizations.

Originally from Chicago, Angelo practiced law for 15 years and represented ultra-high net worth clients and the businesses they owned, as well as major philanthropic organizations. Angelo is admitted to the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He has spoken on topics such as “Conditions Suggesting a Management Buyout” before the Chicago Bar Association Corporation and Business Law Committee, “Tax Consequences of Intra-Family Loans,” before the Chicago Bar Association Trust Law Committee, and “Conversations about Wealth and Philanthropy with Prospective Donors” before the Chicago Council on Planned Giving.

Prior to rejoining Morgan Stanley in his current position in 2018, Angelo advised wealthy clients in the financial services industry for 10 years, first as a Wealth Strategist with US Trust in Chicago, then a Wealth and Estate Planning Specialist within Family Office Resources in Chicago, and finally as a Senior Wealth Planning Strategist for the Wells Fargo Private Bank in Greenwich, Connecticut. Angelo earned his B.A. from DePauw University, his M.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and his law degree from Indiana University at Bloomington. He is Series 7, 66 and 24 licensed. Angelo served as President of the Rotary Club of Chicago (“ROTARY/One”), the world’s first Rotary club, in 2009-2010, and now lives in Armonk, New York with his wife, a native New Yorker, and their two children.
