Welcome

Sir Isaac Newton said, "I can predict the movement of heavenly bodies, but not the madness of men." He said this after losing a significant portion of his family’s wealth in the South Sea Bubble in 1720. My passion for finance and determination for learning from the past has been instrumental in helping me navigate the technology bubble in the late 1990's, real estate bubble in the mid 2000’s and most recently the credit bubble bursting in 2008. My primary focus is in helping affluent families and select institutional clients develop investment strategies that fuse discipline with goal-based investing.  I harness my knowledge of the financial markets to provide top class investments and a multi-generational service model.

My investment philosophy is centered on the fundamentals of value investing; however, I respect the power of human behavior driving values to extremes both high and low.  My clients trust me with their life savings because I have the knowledge, drive, and desire, along with 23 years of professional experience, to help clients navigate turbulent markets and achieve their financial goals.

Institutional Investing

Along with working with individuals and families, I work with a number of institutions to manage their funds. I have over a decade of experience managing the varying needs of institutional clients.

Questions for Institutions to Consider:

  • What social and environmental risks and opportunities does my organization help solve?
  • How can these be addressed through investments?
  • Are there any investments that my organization currently makes that we consider Investing with Impact?
  • What are the legal and operating constraints that shape the approach we can take to investing with impact?
  • How can I work with my Advisor to learn more about the different approaches to Investing with Impact?
  • Does it make sense for our organization to develop a mission-aligned Investment Policy Statement?

4Participating in a new issue/syndicate is subject to availability. IPOs are highly speculative and may not be appropriate for all investors because they lack a stock-trading history and usually involve smaller and newer companies that tend to have limited operating histories, less-experienced management teams, and fewer products or customers. Also, the offering price of an IPO reflects a negotiated estimate as to the value of the company, which may bear little relationship to the trading price of the securities, and it is not uncommon for the closing price of the shares shortly after the IPO to be well above or below the offering price.

9Investing in the market entails the risk of market volatility. The value of all types of investments may increase or decrease over varying time periods. The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable or impact investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability and impact criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.

10Alternative Investments are speculative and include a high degree of risk. An investor could lose all or a substantial amount of his/her investment. Alternative investments are appropriate only for qualified, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time.
