      What do the CFP® and CIMA® designations mean and what it means to YOU

      Being a CFP®, means that one has met the rigorous educational and testing requirements required to attain this certification.  CFPs also agree to adhere to the CFP Board’s strict code of ethics, professional responsibility standards and meet ongoing education requirements.
       
      Although many professionals may call themselves “financial planners,” only those who have fulfilled the rigorous requirements of the CFP® Board can display the CFP® mark. It indicates in-depth knowledge of issues such as financial planning, tax planning, retirement planning and estate planning. It also means I have fluency and ease when talking with your CPA and attorney.
       
      Being a CIMA® means that one has completed the extensive two level training, including instruction at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, a leading finance school; and agreed to adhere to the Investment Management Consultants Association’s code of ethics and meet ongoing education requirements.
       
      A CIMA® is more qualified to manage investment portfolios and often manages portfolios for high net worth and institutional clients.  Their training and experience is in advanced investment consulting, developing investment policy guidelines, optimization of portfolio strategies, quantitative and qualitative selection criteria for manager searches and monitoring of portfolio performance.
