My Story and Services

As your Financial Advisor, Barry Blalock can help you define and strive to meet your goals by delivering a vast array of resources to you in the way that is most appropriate for how you invest and what you want to achieve. Working together, he can help you to preserve and grow your wealth. You will have access to some of the world’s most seasoned and respected investment professionals, a premier trading and execution platform and a full spectrum of investment choices.

Originally from Louisville, Barry attended the University of Louisville and extended his studies at University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and Bellarmine University to focus on deepening his knowledge in Advanced Financial Planning. Several years before his career in Wealth Management, Barry was involved in founding a Fast-Casual Restaurant startup in Boulder, CO.

For the last decade, Barry worked for one of America’s largest Banks customizing bespoke investment strategies for some of the region’s wealthiest clients. His focus there was connecting clients to a portfolio of strategic credit and lending products, tactical equity and fixed income portfolios, net worth, cash flow and income planning scenarios, as well as tailored insurance planning to offset taxes created from experiencing large inheritances or extended healthcare scenarios.

When not working closely with clients, you can find him with his wife and their four children running to a swim practice, round of golf or out to their property in Finchville to Fly Fish, Hike and Ride Horses. They are parishioners at both St. Margaret Mary Catholic Community and Sojourn East on Rudy Lane. Barry is a Director for Race for Aftercare, a Charitable Foundation that allocates capital to enhance the retirement outcomes of both Racing Thoroughbreds and Jockeys once their careers have ended. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Douglass Hills Swim & Dive Team and sponsors several Charity Events throughout the year to bring awareness to issues important to this community.

A Glimpse Into My Investment Philosophy

In providing investment guidance to my clients, I adhere to a philosophy centered on long-term wealth preservation and growth. I prioritize understanding each client's financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon to tailor investment strategies that align with their unique needs. Emphasizing diversified portfolios, quality assets, and disciplined risk management, I aim to cultivate sustainable wealth over time. Transparency, communication, and ongoing education form the cornerstone of my client-centric approach, working to ensuring informed decision-making for all my clients.
Over The Long Term, The S&P Has Grown Despite Negative Events
Despite facing numerous negative events and economic downturns over the years, the S&P has demonstrated remarkable resilience and sustained growth, reflecting the underlying strength and resilience of the U.S. economy, it’s innovative ability, and diversified nature. Being able to ride the emotional highs and lows is not always possible for investors and speaks to the importance that I can bring to your long term financial strategy as someone you can consult during these times.
What Drives Markets?
As a market participant, it’s important to understand what’s driving the moves in the market in the short-term (0-2 years). When you own a stock, it’s a piece of ownership in a company, but many investors don’t understand that the S&P 500, or “the market” you hear about on the news, is actually a futures market. What does that mean? Retail and Institutional Investors are attempting to figure out where the market will be 1, 6, 12, 18 months from now. One way they do that is by incorporating companies earnings and outlook in the next year to piece together where the market could end up. It's a collective effort to forecast the trajectory of the market.
The S&P 500’s Return Distribution
Historically, the S&P 500 has yielded positive returns in 76% of the years since 1926 (See Chart). Such resilience underscores this foundational pillar—that maintaining a long-term perspective in equity investments can be a powerful approach to wealth creation, despite short-term market fluctuations.
Market Timing Can Be A Costly Strategy
Timing the market can be tempting, but it's notoriously difficult to consistently predict short-term fluctuations. Instead, staying invested through market cycles allows investors to capture the long-term growth potential of the market while avoiding the pitfalls of trying to time entry and exit points, possibly leading to more stable and reliable returns over time.
The Need to Save Early: Time Is Money!
With each of my clients I underscore the importance of harnessing the power of compounding, emphasizing how consistent reinvestment of returns had the potential to exponentially grow wealth over time. By recognizing and leveraging this fundamental principle, my clients can work towards capitalizing on the snowball effect of compounded returns to build substantial wealth for the future.

About Marci Coots, ChFC®*

You, who and what is most important to you, drives all that Marci does to help us stay focused on your horizon as we map your family financial journey and navigate risks as you view them. Listening to you, understanding your unique needs, empowering you with knowledge and resources, and working with you in appropriate decisions, Marci coordinates our communication by phone, email, online and through Morgan Stanley’s extensive reporting systems and platforms. Together, we help you review your current financial picture, build strategies to map your vision of your future, and focus on what matters most to you and those important to you.

Marci earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation from the American College of Financial Services through studying advance financial planning, including income and expense budgeting, retirement planning, estate and legacy planning, special needs, wealth management, insurance, and more. Advance financial planning informs our communication as we empower you with the resources and knowledge to address your income needs, choose the most efficient paths for distribution, and help preserve and protect your wealth for those important to you. As you encounter the forks in your path, proposing the “what ifs” helps us help you decide how to save for your child’s education, when to retire, what options you have for social security income, what is the most efficient source of funds for your needs, and how much to set aside for unexpected detours. Through mapping your current position, pointing our compass toward the horizon you envision, and recalculating our path as your life’s terrain changes, we maintain focus on what and who is most important to you.

Thank you is the greatest reward Marci believes she can earn. In her over 15 years of financial services experience, Marci has learned from some of the most knowledgeable advisors at some of the largest financial services firms, in some of the most challenging market environments. Marci is honored for the opportunity Morgan Stanley provides to expand and improve the positive impact we have on the lives of our clients, our families, and our community.

A Strategic Partnership is an arrangement between a Financial Advisor or a team of Financial Advisors with another Financial Advisor or team of Financial Advisors that has a unique focus or knowledge regarding a specific business concentration, product area, and/or client type. If your account is with a Financial Advisor who is a member of a team, any Financial Advisor on the team can service your account. If your Financial Advisor is part of a Strategic Partnership, his or her role in that Strategic Partnership may be limited to a specific business and/or product area and may not cover all facets of your account.
