About Christopher Toney
A seasoned credit analyst, Chris is responsible for conducting critical research for Morgan Stanley’s Zephyr Group, with a particular emphasis on risk management. He joined Zephyr Group in 2018 with nearly 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Chris learned first-hand the power of investing when he participated in a stock picking contest in high school. This experience inspired him to study Economics at the University of Colorado. Upon graduation, he worked at several financial institutions, including Fortis Financial, Janus Capital and the Aurora Bank. Prior to joining The Zephyr Group at Morgan Stanley, Chris was Managing Director and Head of Credit Research for Public Trust Advisors in Denver.
Throughout his career, Chris has developed a strong understanding of the fixed income markets serving multiple roles: Money Market Trader, Credit Analyst, Assistant Portfolio Manager, Senior Fixed Income Analyst, Head of Credit Research and Portfolio Management Director. Chris attended the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University for executive education in Equity and Credit Analysis.
Born at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Chris’s early years were spent traveling with his family to such locations as Germany, Michigan, Virginia and Texas. His father retired from the Air Force when Chris was 11, and Chris has been a Colorado resident ever since. A favorite family activity Chris shares with his two adult children is “Fantasy Flight,” an annual Christmas event that takes terminally ill children and children from shelters on a mini flight to the “North Pole” to meet Santa. An avid snow skier, Chris also enjoys soccer and plays at every opportunity.
