Our Investment Approach

We believe that investment risk is fundamentally a trade-off between the possibility of short term volatility and the potential for long term gains.

We start with an understanding of our clients’ unique circumstances:
- Liquidity needs and cash flow.
- Time horizon.
- Willingness to accept short term volatility in anticipation of earning long term returns.

Our objective is to help achieve better long term results for our clients, and to minimize the periods of stress due to drops in account value.

Investment selection is based on transparency, flexibility, and cost-efficiency.

Guiding principal - “Defense Wins Championships”.
THE RESULT
A portfolio calibrated to our client's specific needs.

Three core values underlie every aspect of our client commitment

    Responsiveness
The volatility and apparent unpredictability of financial markets can be unsettling. Our primary responsibility is to be responsive to our clients, and to make ourselves available when our clients need us.

We are committed to consistency in our communication, thoroughness in our client interaction, and immediacy in our responsiveness to clients’ needs and concerns.

We abhor the complacency that often creeps into relationships, and we strive to stay relevant and engaged in our clients’ financial lives.
    Intelligence
It’s not just about knowledge, it’s about know-how and intelligent decision making. Sensible investment implementation and timing are far more important than the novelty of an investment strategy.

Our investment solutions range from sophisticated to straightforward, but will always be vetted and informed.

You can have confidence that our combination of intellectual rigor and practical know-how will lead to optimized solutions for you.
    Professionalism
As stewards of your capital, we hold ourselves to the highest professional and ethical standards. We are personally engaged and committed to every aspect of our clients’ financial success.

We embrace transparency with our clients. You should always feel that you understand how we are compensated, what we are recommending, and how we intend to meet your financial goals.

Our high standards of professional conduct bolster the conviction that you have chosen the right team to manage your wealth.

6Investing in the market entails the risk of market volatility. The value of all types of investments may increase or decrease over varying time periods. The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of sustainable or impact investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because sustainability and impact criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.

12Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan's investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan's flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan's investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state's own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state's tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
