About Connor McKinney
Connor, who is originally from St. Louis, MO, is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where he received his B.A. in Economics. He initially began his career in the wealth management industry as an undergraduate intern for the person who would eventually become his partner, Matthew Zaft.
Following graduation and after having briefly lived abroad in London and Greece, Connor returned to wealth management and has been advising high-net-worth clients for over a decade. Originally beginning his career with Merrill Lynch in 2010, he and Matt eventually moved their practice to Morgan Stanley in August of 2012. Connor’s primary role within the Zaft/McKinney group is to serve his clients with specific experience in asset allocation and dynamic financial planning, specializing in the portfolio construction of structured products and alternative investments in conjunction with the rest of the team’s areas of expertise. Connor has also earned the designation of Family Wealth Director, which is a highly regarded designation within Morgan Stanley’s Family Office Resource Group and held by fewer than 4% of Morgan Stanley’s Financial Advisors. As a Family Wealth Director, Connor is recognized for his extensive experience serving the diverse and often complex financial needs of multi-generational families. As such, Connor and the team tap an expansive suite of resources that span Family Governance, Family Office Services, Family Wealth Education, Philanthropy Management, Estate Strategies, Trust Services, Insurance, Lifestyle Advisory and Private Banking Lending.
Connor has earned rankings by Forbes as one of America’s “Best-In-State Wealth Advisors” in 2023 and 2024, “Best-In-State Wealth Management Team” in 2024, "Top Next-Gen Advisors" in 2018, "Next Gen Best-in-State Wealth Advisors" in 2019, 2023, and 2024, "Top 500 Next-Gen Wealth Advisors Nationally" in 2020, and one of "America’s Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors" in both 2021 and 2022. In addition, he has been recognized as a "Five Star Investment Professional" from 2019-2023.
While the team continues to be based primarily out of Washington, D.C., Connor co-manages the practice out of the Morgan Stanley offices in New York City, where he and his wife, Meghan, now reside nearby with their daughters, Parker and Ryan, and dog, Bailey.

2Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
3Annuities are offered in conjunction with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC’s licensed insurance agency affiliates.

Alternative investments are appropriate only for qualified, long-term investors who are willing to forgo liquidity and put capital at risk for an indefinite period of time.
5When Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC, its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors and Private Wealth Advisors (collectively, “Morgan Stanley”) provide “investment advice” regarding a retirement or welfare benefit plan account, an individual retirement account or a Coverdell education savings account (“Retirement Account”), Morgan Stanley is a “fiduciary” as those terms are defined under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, as amended (“ERISA”), and/or the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (the “Code”), as applicable. When Morgan Stanley provides investment education, takes orders on an unsolicited basis or otherwise does not provide “investment advice”, Morgan Stanley will not be considered a “fiduciary” under ERISA and/or the Code. For more information regarding Morgan Stanley’s role with respect to a Retirement Account, please visit www.morganstanley.com/disclosures/dol. Tax laws are complex and subject to change. Morgan Stanley does not provide tax or legal advice.
