About Gary Gray

Gary has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, and has been with Morgan Stanley since 2008.  Originally from Erie, PA, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.  As an officer in the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego, CA, he completed three overseas deployments and attained the rank of Lieutenant (O-3).  His duty assignments consisted of Communications Officer on USS ELLIOT, Navigator on USS COMSTOCK, and Deputy Director of Project Handclasp, the U.S. Navy’s humanitarian relief program.  After leaving the Navy, he became a Financial Advisor in La Jolla, CA and earned the CFP® designation.  Being a Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner requires meeting rigorous certification requirements, including post-graduate coursework and continuing education, experience standards, a 10-hour exam, and agreeing to adhere to the CFP® Board’s strict code of ethics.  After building a successful financial planning business on the West Coast, Gary and his wife Kate relocated to Western Massachusetts to start a family.  Gary expanded his business nationwide by joining the Springfield, MA office of Morgan Stanley and retaining his West Coast clients.  After four years of building a bi-coastal business, he accepted responsibilities as Complex Business Development Manager in Northern Connecticut. For three years, he spearheaded the hiring and training of all new financial advisors, as well as consulted experienced advisors on specific business building techniques, until ultimately collaborating with the Sullivan – Zak Group in West Hartford, CT, to form The Willow Group and returning to advising clients full-time.  He has earned his Series 7, 66, 9, 10, life and health insurance licenses and is a Senior Vice President with the firm.  In his free time, Gary enjoys playing music and coaching youth basketball.  Gary and Kate live in East Longmeadow, MA with their two sons Shane and Blake.

1Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.

12The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
