The Monte Carlo simulation is a mathematical technique that predicts possible outcomes of an uncertain event. This helps us understand the impact of risk and uncertainty. Instead of taking an average rate of return and assuming that's what you're going to constantly see in the future, it runs a number of different possibilities and outcomes and gives us a rate of success. This is important because we know that the market varies with different rates of return every year.
