How we will work together

Communication is the backbone of our practice. We ask questions about your goals, your time horizon, and your risk tolerance. Then, we listen. This is an ongoing process that helps us get to know you and your situation to allow us to work towards all of your most important dreams, short and-long term.
    Icon Image
    Step 1 - Discovery
Our relationship begins with a thorough understanding of your immediate needs, priorities and goals. We’ll discuss details about your financial wealth and health to help you take precautions to maintain credit and preserve assets. This is when we work together to establish a set of objectives based on your financial goals, time horizon, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance.
    Icon Image
    Step 2 - Creation
We will develop a tailored road map to begin to help you rebuild your wealth and achieve the outcomes you seek. We’ll identify the strategies to help you plan for your goals such as retirement planning, healthcare protection for yourself and your family and finalizing your estate plan.

The strategies within your road map will be supported by a customized investment strategy intended to facilitate optimal portfolio performance to help potentially achieve the highest return possible that is consistent with your strategy’s level of risk.
    Icon Image
    Step 3 - Act
We help you implement the strategies that we have formulated thus far, taking into account special circumstances such as divorce, inheritance, purchase or sale of a business or home, and the potential associated tax consequences.
    Icon Image
    Step 4 - Adjust
Achieving your goals requires vigilance and flexibility. We will monitor your portfolio to track its performance relative to your stated objectives and make adjustments as your life evolves, as the markets and tax laws shift, and as your priorities change. We will leverage a vast array of resources at Morgan Stanley depending on your needs and connect with your CPA, attorney, and other relevant contacts in your financial life.

    Tax Loss Harvesting
What is tax-loss harvesting exactly, and how do some investors use it to opportunistically reduce their tax bills?

Tax-loss harvesting. IRS rules stipulate that if a security is sold by an investor at a tax loss, the tax loss will not be currently usable if the investor has acquired (or has entered into a contract or option on) the same or substantially identical securities 30 days before or after the sale that generated the loss. This so-called “wash sale” rule is applied with respect to all of the investor’s transactions across all accounts.

Meet The Wayzata Bay Group

About Sean Kane

Sean Kane is a Senior Vice President and Financial Advisor with The Wayzata Bay Group. Sean joined the financial services industry in 2011 and has spent the entirety of his career with Morgan Stanley.

Sean grew up under the tutelage of his father, an entrepreneur and small business owner. At a young age, Sean was shown that the combination of hard work and strong character would be the ingredients for his own success. Sean started his own company in high school, Kane’s Boat Services, where client-service and satisfaction were hallmarks of the business. Sean’s passion for business and client-service led him to the University of St Thomas where he participated in the international study abroad program, spending time in Europe, Egypt and East Africa. Sean graduated in three and a half years with a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Economics

As a Financial Advisor, Sean consistently challenges himself by tapping into both his analytical and interpersonal side. Sean places an emphasis in being tax efficient in his investment approach. Sean believes wealth management is not only how much you make in the market, but it’s also how much wealth you and your family preserve. Sean recognizes no two clients are alike. Gaining a thorough understanding of each client’s goals, dreams and motivations is at the heart of his practice. The planning process Sean deploys results in customized strategies that address the individual needs and goals of his clients.

Sean currently lives in Wayzata with his wife Morgan and their two children. Outside of the office, Sean teaches community education, coaches soccer, serves as a best prep mentor and as a mentor for the student alumni counsel with the University of St. Thomas. In his spare time, Sean plays soccer, works out, and enjoys downhill skiing. In the summer he can be found boating on Lake Minnetonka.
