Every journey begins somewhere.
For ours, it began more than four decades ago, when a handful of Financial Advisors in East Tennessee set out with a simple belief: if you work hard, put people first, and always do what's right, relationships will stand the test of time.
Long before there were team names or brands, these advisors were helping families prepare for retirement, business owners build and transition companies, and multiple generations navigate life's most important financial decisions. They earned trust one relationship at a time.
As new advisors joined over the years, that same philosophy continued to shape what would become two respected wealth management practices within Morgan Stanley…Bays Mountain Group and Tennessee Valley Wealth Management. Although each team developed its own history, they shared a common purpose—to serve clients with integrity, thoughtful advice, and an unwavering commitment to putting people first.
Those shared values eventually brought us together.
In 2026, those two legacies became Holston Ridge Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley, bringing together many decades of experience, broader capabilities, and one unified commitment: assisting clients and their families navigate an increasingly complex financial world with clarity and confidence.
Our name reflects both our heritage and our approach.
Holston represents our roots—the communities we have served, the relationships we have built, and the legacy entrusted to us over generations.

Private Markets
Many of today’s companies stay private longer, with more of their valuation being created before they become publicly traded. Morgan Stanley Private Markets connects a broad network of potential private investors in an accessible ecosystem, allowing eligible clients to buy and sell securities of private companies.
Family Office Resources (FOR)
Family Office Resources (FOR) provides specialized technical expertise to ultra-high net worth clients across a broad range of family wealth management issues. These issues include Comprehensive Wealth Planning, Family Governance and Wealth Education, Private Banking, Estate Planning Strategies, Philanthropy Management and more. Philanthropy
Morgan Stanley offers a variety of charitable solutions for clients. These include:
-Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): With a DAF clients make irrevocable, nonrefundable contributions of cash or securities. The assets in the DAF can grow free of federal income tax, and the donor can suggest when and which qualified charities should receive grants.
-Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): Clients who are 70 ½ or older can make annual QCDs up to $105,000 directly from their IRA to a qualifying public charity. The client will not owe any federal income tax on QCDs.
-U.S. Legacy Income Trusts: The trusts provide Donors contributing cash and/or acceptable securities with the opportunity to avoid recognition of capital gains on contributions of appreciated assets. They also provide monthly distributions of tax-advantaged income for life up to ten individual income beneficiaries designated by the donor. Upon passing of the last income beneficiary, the remainder will be distributed to the donor’s qualified public charities.
-Charitable Remainder Trust: this is an irrevocable trust that is often used for income tax planning and is designed to benefit both individuals and charity. The term of the non–charitable interest may be for up to 20 years or the lives of the individuals – typically the donor and spouse. Contributions to the CRT can qualify for a charitable gift or estate tax deduction and the donor typically receives a charitable income tax deduction for lifetime trusts. About Jim Cooper
Jim Cooper was born and raised in northeast Tennessee and has worked in financial services for over 45 years. He co-founded the Waller/Cooper/Merritt team in 1996 at J.C. Bradford & Co. and continued to develop the team through the mergers with PaineWebber and UBS prior to joining Morgan Stanley in 2009.
Jim attended Vanderbilt University and received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. He played on the varsity golf team at both universities. Immediately after college, Jim was a commercial loan officer in NE Tennessee and SW Virginia for three years before joining J.C. Bradford & Co. in 1978 as a Investment Advisor Representative before being named Partner in 1995.
Jim remains an avid golfer in his free time. He is a member and past president of the Kingsport Sunrise Rotary Club where he holds perfect attendance for 37 years. Jim has served on the Tennessee Conservation Commission and is past Chairman of the Tennessee Nature Conservancy. Jim attends First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where he has served in various leadership roles. Jim is a native of Church Hill, TN and has lived his entire adult life in Kingsport and Piney Flats. Jim and his wife of 50 years, Sydney, have four children.

About Corey Wilson
Corey has spent his career at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, eventually becoming a founding partner of Tennessee Valley Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley and has been helping individuals, families, business owners, and executives navigate complex financial decisions since 2002.
Corey focuses on comprehensive wealth management, family wealth planning, concentrated stock strategies, alternative investments, retirement planning, philanthropic planning, and multigenerational wealth transfer. He is passionate about helping clients simplify the complexity of wealth through thoughtful planning and personalized strategies designed to align their financial resources with their long-term goals and values.
Before beginning his career in financial services, Corey attended East Tennessee State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. Pursuing a long-time goal, in December 2025, he earned a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. His educational background, combined with more than two decades of industry experience, has shaped his belief that wisdom, stewardship, and strong relationships are foundational to effective wealth management.
Active in the East Tennessee community, Corey serves on the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Theatre and is a counselor at Transformation Church. He and his wife, Becka, have two daughters, Reese and Reagan, who compete in competitive soccer, including at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Hardin Valley Academy, and FC Alliance. Outside the office, Corey enjoys traveling with his family, golf, tennis, scuba diving, skiing, CrossFit, and running.

Eli Snyder began his career with Morgan Stanley in 2021 as a Wealth Management Intern with Tennessee Valley Wealth Management, supporting Corey, Brian, and Alex. After earning his bachelor’s degree in finance (with a collateral in entrepreneurship) from the University of Tennessee in the Spring of 2023, Eli joined Pilot Company as a Pricing Analyst, where he supported the sales organization by providing competitive diesel discounts and delivering in-depth customer savings analyses. In April 2024, Eli returned to Morgan Stanley and currently serves as a Registered Client Service Associate. He obtained his registration in March 2025 and began the process of pursuing his CFP designation in July of 2025.
