Meet The Tampa Horizon Group

About Kathy Burke

Kathy is a licensed Financial Advisor, Portfolio Manager, and Financial Planning Specialist with the Tampa Horizon Group at Morgan Stanley. Kathy has been in the financial world for more than 40 years, starting as a registered sales associate at Dean Witter. In 1987, Kathy moved to Tampa and began working as a Branch Administrator at Smith Barney alongside Gary Garcia, her business partner for 35 years. In 2008, Gary and Kathy transitioned to Morgan Stanley and launched the Garcia Group, which was renamed as the Tampa Horizon Group upon Gary’s retirement in 2023.

Kathy was born and raised in New Middletown, OH with a large extended family who she visits regularly. Growing up in such a big family, with 3 siblings and 10 cousins, directly impacted her philosophy on working with clients. Kathy sees her clients as an extension of her family, learning what they’re passionate about and what their financial goals are so she can build a plan to help make their dreams come to fruition.

In 2007 Kathy started working with law enforcement and detention deputies at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to help them get an understanding of their options in the Florida Retirement System. To date, Kathy has helped more than fifty law enforcement families build a financial plan to get them to and through retirement.

Kathy is very involved with her community, volunteering for Feeding Tampa Bay and The Spirit Tree Inc., a non-profit wildlife sanctuary in Dade City, Florida. Kathy was married to Dan Burke, her loving husband for 40 years before he passed in 2020. Kathy’s lifelong passion for visiting national parks and traveling with family and friends is how she spends her time outside of work.
