Our Story and Services

At The Stonewall Group at Morgan Stanley, we are proud to serve an amazing and talented group of people. While they each have their own unique wealth creation story, they all have one important trait in common: The desire to achieve greater balance in their lives, so they have the freedom to pursue their life goals with greater confidence and control.

We begin our process by getting to know you. We want to understand your life and the challenges you currently face. We want to learn about the values that are important to you. And we want to help you prioritize both your short- and long-term goals, so we can develop a personalized game plan that unlocks the power of your wealth today and as it grows over time.

Named for the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City, we have more than 45 years of collective experience working with clients who live extraordinary lives and who require financial services that go beyond the ordinary. Our unique backgrounds and strengths enable us to fully serve the needs of a broad array of clients, from professional gamers to members of the LGBTQ community to high net worth families . . . and everything in between.

As we begin to work together, you will experience a level of care that aims to exceed your expectations. Every. Single. Day. We are proud of the “white glove” service and solutions we provide each client and welcome the opportunity to deliver this same level of excellence to you.

Our Key Strengths

Smart wealth management begins and ends with customized service and attention to detail. We enjoy working with like-minded clients who seek the same kind of long-term, fully engaged relationships we value and who appreciate the following attributes we believe set us apart from other advisory teams.
    Caring Relationships
We are dedicated to building deep relationships based on trust, integrity, and respect. We do this by working with a select group of clients who value our extensive experience in providing comprehensive solutions that go well beyond investments.
    A personalized Client Experience
With decades of experience, we have acquired the knowledge and insights to tackle the challenges of wealth. Scott’s unique investment strategy combined with Jeff’s extensive service model provides a bespoke client experience. We want to be the last financial services team you will ever hire.
    Our Disciplined Process
From planning to execution, every step of our process is designed to ensure a clear and consistent experience for every client. Your comprehensive wealth management plan begins with an in-depth discovery process with Jeff to fully understand where you are today and where you want to go. This, in turn, drives the investment recommendations from Scott that are designed to get you there on time and without any unnecessary risk.
    Extensive Investment Experience
Scott has significant experience working in different investment roles before turning his talents to becoming a Financial Advisor. He brings more than 40 years of “inside” experience to serve the unique needs of our clients. We are dedicated to helping you navigate the distractions of challenging markets. Our priority is to help you prepare for all of life’s milestones and be your first call for any financial matter.
    Solutions Built for YOU
What sets us apart from other advisory teams is our astute problem-solving skills coupled with an impassioned willingness to roll up our sleeves and identify innovative strategies that meet -- and often -- exceed your objectives. We believe the more complex your situation, the more valuable we are to you, and the more rewarding your overall experience will be.
    Your Advisor and Advocate
Our experience has taught us that every client’s circumstances are unique. We have built strong relationships in communities that are near and dear to us. Professional gamers, members of the LGBTQ community, successful professionals in the world of business . . . we understand the challenges that keep you up at night. We make it a priority to be your advisor and advocate, as we empower you to pursue your life goals.
    A Strong Moral Compass
Every decision we make is focused on doing the right thing for you. We simplify your financial life, offering the most efficient solutions with objective advice. Above all, we have a strong work ethic, believe in the “golden rule,” and always put your interests ahead of our own.
    First-Class Service
Successful wealth management is a process, not an event. Our personalized service experience is based on three critical components: continuous service, mutual understanding, and ongoing relationship building. This commitment enables us to provide service that is both value-added and differentiating. We attract new clients – and maintain existing ones – because of our premium service.

You Define Success, We Help You Achieve It

We work with an exceptional group of clients who value and respect the advice we carefully cultivate for them in the achievement of their goals. Every day, we help them answer questions about their wealth, so they can make more informed decisions with confidence.
Here are just some of the questions we can you help YOU answer about your finances and your future:
  • - How do I invest my hard-earned money in a way that strategically allows me to stay focused on my career?
  • - Am I taking on too much risk in my portfolio? Are my investments set up for success?
  • - Is there a way to incorporate my personal values into the way I invest without giving up performance?
  • - Are there ways to generate cash flow without liquidating my securities and incurring taxes?
  • - Will I be able to retire on my current timetable?
  • - If I leave my company, what happens to my 401(k) account? What are my options?
  • - Life’s risks can reveal themselves in many ways – from loss of life to loss of health to loss of income. How do I protect myself and my family from life’s unknowns?
  • - I have a will, but do I also need a trust to make sure my assets are distributed as I wish?
  • - Making sure my estate goes to the people and organizations I care about is important to me. How do I leave a lasting legacy?
Our Clients Include:
  • • Professional gamers who are building legitimacy for gaming as a career choice and paving the way for future competitors and content creators
  • • Members of the LGBTQ community who have special financial needs, including minimizing taxes and optimizing estate and gifting strategies
  • • Successful professionals and business owners who have amassed significant wealth during their careers and seek sophisticated strategies to continue to grow and preserve their assets

Our Journey Together

Our goals-based approach focuses on where you are today and where you want to go. Working together, we develop the strategies to get you there, navigating life’s challenges and helping you make informed and confident decisions along the way.
    1. Introduction
We begin with a conversation to learn about you, introduce you to our approach, and determine how we can add value to your situation.
    2. Discovery
We continue our dialogue to fully understand your personal, professional, and family situation so we can clarify your priorities and timelines.
    3. Analysis & Plan Development
Here, we utilize industry-leading financial planning tools to develop a personalized financial plan with specific recommendations to help you grow, preserve and transfer your wealth.
    4. Plan Presentation
In this step, we present your plan, which includes a unique asset allocation strategy that aligns your investments with your goals, your timeframes, and your risk level.
    5. Implementation
Upon your approval, we begin to implement the strategies outlined in the plan. Once assets have been transferred to Morgan Stanley and are aligned with your investment strategy, we introduce all of the resources now available to you to manage your assets easily and efficiently.
    6. Ongoing Service & Care
We are committed to developing longstanding relationships that provide special value to you. We speak with you regularly to provide updates on your accounts. We also monitor progress towards each of your goals, adjusting your plan accordingly as changes in your life occur.

Education and Engagement

At The Stonewell Group, we believe ongoing financial education leads to a better understanding of how to manage your assets and protect your wealth. To that end, throughout the year we host a number of programs that focus on all aspects of your financial life.

We create these opportunities so we can share insights and new perspectives on topics that can simplify your life and strengthen your financial security. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming activities. Please check back regularly for updates on additional activities we hold throughout the year.

Meet The Stonewall Group

About Scott Discount

Scott Discount, Financial Advisor and Portfolio Manager, brings a lifetime of experience to his role at Morgan Stanley. As co-founder of The Stonewall Group at Morgan Stanley, he focuses on helping clients achieve their short- and long-term goals with an emphasis on portfolio construction and investment management. Scott has a rare depth of knowledge and understanding of the financial markets with more than 40 years of experience working at some of the country’s largest firms on Wall Street. His areas of experience include equities, equity options, currencies, interest rates, and Emerging Market fixed income derivatives. He enjoys sharing his insights with high net worth individuals who seek more sophisticated strategies to grow and preserve their assets.

Growing up in Sayville, New York, Scott moved to Manhattan after earning his B.A. degree in Economics from Cornell University. His intellectual curiosity and passion for investing enabled him to build a long and successful career in capital markets. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Scott spent three years as a Global Macro Portfolio Manager for the Millennium Partners Hedge Fund. He worked at J.P. Morgan for 13 years and was instrumental in starting four businesses for the firm. He managed money for select Private Bank clients, traded for J.P. Morgan’s proprietary capital account, served as Product Manager of the firm’s Latin American Local Markets group, and ultimately moved to the Emerging Markets Fixed Income Division where he was involved in structured credit and derivatives. While there, he helped structure the initial issuance of the United States of Mexico’s local bond warrant transaction, totaling $1.5 billion. This transaction won the Government of Mexico the 2006 Euromoney’s “Deal of the Year” award.
Today, Scott draws upon his vast industry knowledge to provide clients with customized investment portfolios and tailored advice. He enjoys solving problems for clients and educating them about the markets. Above all, he excels at simplifying the complexities of investing. His extensive experience – coupled with his ability to decipher complicated financial matters – enables him to help clients understand the intricate details of their wealth, while guiding them towards the achievement of their personal and professional goals.

Scott currently lives in Palm Springs with his husband, Seann Coffee. Together for over 26 years, they enjoy spending time with their two stepdaughters, five grandchildren and two Golden retrievers. Their younger daughter, Maggie, was a super model for decades and now lives in northern California with her family. Scott and Seann leveraged her fame to raise money for AIDS. They hosted one of the largest HIV/AIDS galas in New York City for seven years. Their older daughter, Julia, is also involved in charitable work and lives in upstate New York.

Beyond supporting various philanthropic efforts with the DAP Health (formerly the Desert AIDS Project), the LGBT Center and the Sanctuary, Scott enjoys horseback riding, traveling, making music (cello and piano) and participating in various dog shows. For 15 years, he and Seann managed a kennel of Goldens. At their peak, they had 10 adult Goldens they were showing and breeding.
