The Sherman Group

The Sherman Group is a multigenerational partnership of financial professionals organized under the auspices of Morgan Stanley. Formed by Arthur Sherman, CFP (retired) in 1981, this eponymously named partnership is comprised of five financial professionals who have spent their entire careers in finance working together.

The uniqueness of the Sherman Group lies not only in its multigenerational legacy; its advisors’ extensive education in law and financial planning and its cohesiveness and collective wisdom as a team, but also in the team’s rare sense of accountability. As the Sherman Group has never changed firms, every client that has ever worked with the team knows exactly where to find them.

With the stability, longevity, and breadth of knowledge provided by this boutique “group within a firm,” and with the ability to access the resources of one of the world’s global financial powerhouses, Morgan Stanley, The Sherman Group not only provides high-end financial, retirement, estate planning strategies and asset management services, but also is the portal to lending, family dynamics counseling, philanthropic and succession planning, hedging and monetization strategies, insurance, trust services as well as private and commercial banking.

As a Wall Street pioneer in delivering group synergy to its clients, The Sherman Group continues to make its mark through its ability to help their clients make better decision in life. The team’s proprietary planning methods, active-passive investment management, and overt accountability, along with the team’s triad approach to high touch client service, i.e., working as the financial advisor, along with the client’s CPA and estate attorneys, makes working with The Sherman Group the primary destination for high end, values based multigenerational wealth management.

Working With You

The “Advisor of First Thought” is the first person you think to call when life requires a trusted second opinion. When clients choose to onboard with our team, we hope to create for them a long lasting relationship of trust and guidance. Financial planning and portfolio management often is why we’re hired, but guiding our clients through the many challenges and opportunities that arise in their lives is why they bring their parents, children and grandchildren to us.

Common questions we regularly address include:
  • Our family needs help with our finances and we don’t know where to begin, can you help?
  • Can I afford to buy this vacation home and can you help me get a mortgage? Should I buy, rent or lease?
  • What’s the best way to loan my child money for a business?
  • How should I invest for my future and college for my kids?
  • Are trusts a good idea for us, for our kids?
  • My company needs a retirement plan, can you help with that?
  • When can I realistically retire? Will I be able to afford healthcare?
  • We’ve been blessed and we want to help our children and grandchildren, can we discuss the best way to do this with you?

6The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
