Our Why and How

Our Why:

You have worked for your wealth. Most of our clients gained their wealth doing something they were good at and, more importantly, something that they loved. Our only focus is on maintaining and growing that wealth so that you can meet your goals in the most efficient and effective way possible. Like you, we are good at what we do, and we love to do it. Helping you and your family is our passion. We endeavor for our passion to show, and we believe it does. Our clients tell us it does and they regularly refer people they care about to us so that we can help them as well. Ask us more about our why when you call.

Our How:

We believe that a disciplined approach increases the likelihood of generating consistent returns while limiting risk of principal. We regard time in the market as more important than timing the market. As such, while being mindful of the current climate, we are focused on long term results.

Wealth Management for Physicians

As a healthcare provider, your industry has had a tectonic shift within virtually every aspect of your practice. Technology has changed the way you treat and “see” your patients. Managed care has changed the way you get your patients, how much time you can spend with your patients, and how you get paid to treat your patients. Many physicians have been forced to change the way they approach their profession and how they view their practices.

Our clients went into healthcare to help people. They care for their patients deeply, and they don’t want to choose between their practice and their family’s financial future. Likewise, we are in practice to care for our clients’ financial health and well-being.

You are unique and have unique needs. We have the experience working with physicians and dentists through the years to overcome many of these challenges. We have helped hundreds of our clients retire over our careers, and we approach our clients with the same standard of care that you approach your patients. Working with us, you can focus on your patients knowing you have a team of advisors supporting your financial decisions. We take time to understand your goals and dreams, develop a care plan to reach your objectives, and tailor our solutions for the express purpose of delivering Wealth Enhancement, Protection, and Transfer. You will have access to world-class investment consulting, financial strategies, and retirement plan services for physicians as part of one of the world’s premier financial services firms.

About Barney Grossman

Barney began his career in Minnesota, working at a large insurance company. He corrected complex computing errors, but more importantly learned that he doesn’t like Minnesota winters. After relocating to Dallas, he transitioned to closing real estate transactions. To get a more holistic relationship with his clients, Barney moved over to personal finance and managed banks and later private banking. In 2005, he moved his practice to Merrill Lynch.

With experience in the financial services industry extending back to 1994, Barney took the opportunity to join Myron Schwitzer at Smith Barney (which later became Morgan Stanley) in 2008, when they formed the Schwitzer Grossman Group. The two of them focus on the needs and solutions of their clients. Utilizing his previous experience with firms such as Stewart Title, Republic Title, Bank of America, and Merrill Lynch, Barney focuses on holistic financial planning, real estate, cash management and lending solutions, and investments. A lifelong problem-solver, Barney has always enjoyed completing crossword, sudoku and other puzzles. He finds similarities between those games and working with clients. Barney realizes that every person he works with has their own unique situation, which requires a customized approach of establishing the clients’ current situation, their goals and dreams, and any obstacles along the way.

Barney has lived in the Dallas area since 1983 and is a dedicated community member, being an active Freemason and Scottish Rite Mason. Well-traveled as a Child, Barney grew up splitting time between Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dallas, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico. Barney and his wife Amber have three children, Miles, Rachel, and Alayna, and a dog named Libby. Barney enjoys fishing, hiking, and traveling. Barney and Amber are also avid scuba divers and live music enthusiasts. He contributes his time and energy as a volunteer for local non-profit organizations.

8Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.

9The returns on a portfolio consisting primarily of Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) aware investments may be lower or higher than a portfolio that is more diversified or where decisions are based solely on investment considerations. Because ESG criteria exclude some investments, investors may not be able to take advantage of the same opportunities or market trends as investors that do not use such criteria. Diversification does not guarantee a profit or protect against loss in a declining financial market.
