Our primary focus is the well-being of your entire family.

We take care of the obvious areas, such as:
• Managing Taxes. We keep an eye on new opportunities to reduce your taxable income as your goals and finances evolve.
• Retirement Planning. We help you develop and implement a strategy based on your personal vision of retirement.
• Education Planning. We help you craft a plan to pay for a good education for your children or grandchildren.
• Family Concerns. We help you prepare for the possibility that your parents or other relatives may need assistance with health or living expenses now or in the future.
• Liquidity Needs. We work to maximize your options for having funds available when you need them.
• Insurance and Long-Term Care. We aim to ensure your family is protected during difficult times.

But, we’re also more than qualified to address complex issues that fall outside the bounds of a traditional advisory relationship, such as:
• Transferring a family business to the next generation
• Creating an estate plan to minimize the potential for sibling conflict
• Refining your philanthropic goals around tax-aware strategies

Addressing these multi-faceted concerns requires specialized knowledge, experience and commitment. We are fortunate to have a Family Wealth Management Advisor on our team. Tom Urfer’s advanced knowledge, coupled with our team’s many years of experience working with families, uniquely positions us to deliver a broader spectrum of family-centric wealth management solutions to you.

Meet The Schwartzbaum Urfer Group

About Judith A Schwartzbaum

Since 1985, I have helped families prepare for the most important things in their lives – college for children and grandchildren, planning for and funding their retirement years, and building contingencies for life’s unforeseen surprises. As the senior partner of The Schwartzbaum Urfer Group at Morgan Stanley, I ensure that our team focuses on all aspects of wealth because our clients have a lot more to manage than just their money. Our highly personalized and comprehensive wealth management strategies go beyond asset management. We build customized financial plans that incorporate estate and trust planning, charitable giving and long-term legacy plans, risk management contingencies, and provisions for helping family members. We coordinate our recommendations with our clients’ CPAs and attorneys to incorporate legal and tax planning considerations. Our team is committed to ongoing learning, for ourselves and for our clients. We work hard to ensure that our clients receive advice that matches their needs and that they understand and are comfortable with our recommendations

I grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, and then went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I continue my education as a member of the Association of Professional Investment Consultants (APIC) and of the Portfolio Management Institute.

My family had vacationed in Sarasota since I was a teenager, so relocating to Sarasota in 1984 was an easy decision and transition. I was married to a retired physician, Dr. Leonard Schwartzbaum, who passed away in 2018. My family includes daughters Anne and Amy, son Daniel and grandchildren Katherine and Julia. My household also includes two dogs. Bella is a beautiful black Labrador Retriever who was trained to be Len’s service assistance dog and Reese, a yellow lab rescue dog, is the newest member of my family. I have traveled extensively. My commitment to my family and to yours is the most important part of our Group’s mission statement.

About Thomas Z Urfer

As a partner in The Schwartzbaum Urfer Group, I help ensure that our clients’ financial plans are structured to achieve their milestones and include contingencies for life’s unplanned events. I draw on my experience and credentialed knowledge to design strategies that prepare clients for a comfortable retirement, pay for children or grandchildren’s education, provide for aging parents and create a sustaining legacy. It gives me tremendous satisfaction when clients tell me that our work together helps them to sleep well at night.

I grew up in Sarasota, graduated with honors from the University of Florida and joined the Sarasota office of H&R Block Financial Advisors in 1999. Three years later, I was recruited by Merrill Lynch to join a new office in Palm Coast, Florida, located in Flagler County. I earned my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation in 2006 and then teamed up with Judy Schwartzbaum when my family and I moved back home to Sarasota in 2009.

I stay active in the community through my involvement with the Sarasota County Gator Club, the UF Alumni Association and the Gulf Coast Leadership Institute. I am on the board of Riverview High School’s Alumni Hall of Fame and enjoy running the scoreboard for the basketball team’s home games. During my free time, I enjoy golfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking and spending time with my two sons.

2Investors should consider many factors before deciding which 529 plan is appropriate. Some of these factors include: the Plan’s investment options and the historical investment performance of these options, the Plan’s flexibility and features, the reputation and expertise of the Plan’s investment manager, Plan contribution limits and the federal and state tax benefits associated with an investment in the Plan. Some states, for example, offer favorable tax treatment and other benefits to their residents only if they invest in the state’s own Qualified Tuition Program. Investors should determine their home state’s tax treatment of 529 plans when considering whether to choose an in-state or out-of-state plan. Investors should consult with their tax or legal advisor before investing in any 529 Plan or contact their state tax division for more information. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC does not provide tax and/or legal advice. Investors should review a Program Disclosure Statement, which contains more information on investment options, risk factors, fees and expenses and possible tax consequences.
