Our Story

When asked why each of us chose this career, our answers were the same – to help families make their vision a reality.  Jeff realized from the beginning how crucially important it was to see the whole picture.  Learning about our clients and their family, their goals, family dynamic, legacy plans and dreams enables us to create a personalized plan for them.

Jeff and Judy have built The Riverstone Group on integrity.  To us that means providing an exceptional client experience where each of our clients knows we will take the time to understand and work with them at their individual level.  Through our varied experiences, we can provide advice in areas such as estate and legacy planning strategies, concerns with aging parents, business succession strategies and retirement lifestyle planning.  One of the most rewarding aspects of working with multi-generational families is helping younger family members develop an understanding of financial life planning.

Our team has a genuine desire to help our clients prepare for life transition events and overcome the challenges that sometimes arise.  Our commitment and dedication to working diligently with our clients to help them solve their problems and accomplish long standing goals is appreciated.

Working With You

An exceptional client experience is our primary goal.   Utilizing our structured, seven-step client advice process we provide a detailed assessment of your current situation as well as an individualized plan to help achieve your goals.  Keeping up with the ever-changing financial planning environment is a challenge we enjoy.  Finding new ways to help our clients plan for goals like tax efficiency, education, estate planning and retirement helps our clients stay on track.

Once your plan has been created, we meet once a year to review and make adjustments that may be needed due to personal or economic changes.  In addition to our reviews, we focus throughout the year on educational topics from college expenses to eldercare which help our clients make informed decisions about their family’s future.

Our Clients

Our clients are busy, successful individuals and families whose lives are filled with the demands of their work and the desire to achieve balance at home.  While keeping their focus where they want it to be—work and home—our clients have limited time left over to create a plan to fulfill their vision for the future or even imagine what that future could be.

Clients seek our guidance when facing a life transition event such as a pending marriage, the birth of a child or grandchild, divorce or a job change.  Some are looking for help defining what their retirement picture might look like.

We help our clients organize their financial lives, visualize their future and seek to create meaningful, achievable goals.  We help them understand the broad array of choices they have and then develop a plan that seeks to put them confidently on track toward their vision, whatever that vision might be.

Experience & Recognition

Providing a one-stop shop for our clients, with each member of our team contributing his or her own experience and knowledge, provides a holistic approach designed to meet and exceed our client’s expectations.

Recognizing that each family has unique goals and challenges, we combine Jeff’s estate planning and portfolio construction experience with Judy’s in-depth knowledge of Social Security, long-term care and business retirement planning, to help simplify complex planning needs.   Our close working relationships with local accountants and estate attorneys help our clients stay up-to-date with changes in the estate and legacy planning landscape.

When combined with Erika’s experience in using our LifeView® Financial Planning suite of tools and focused follow-up, along with Chad's communication skills, engaging demeanor, and attention to details, our clients have come to expect a world-class experience.

LifeView® is a registered service of Morgan Stanley & Company and used under license.

Community Involvement

Supporting youth during the most influential years of their lives, both locally and globally, is a privilege and a blessing for each of us.  From filling back-to-school backpacks for children of the 116th Idaho Army National Guard to cooking dinner at Ronald McDonald House and providing kids’ activities at the Idaho Foodbank’s Picnic in the Park, our team has enjoyed every moment.

Jeff has a heart for kids who are vulnerable, which led him to the Open Arms Home for Children in South Africa, home to 50-60 children who have become orphans through the AIDS crisis. He has been an active Board member and volunteer since 2006 and has been “Uncle Jeff” to many of the children since the beginning.  Closer to home, Jeff is a Board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Nampa and has supported local kids for many years.

Our team also participates in monthly fundraisers for local charities including those near and dear to our hearts like the Idaho Humane Society, Northwest Battle Buddies (serving Veterans with PTSD) and Family Advocates.

About Jeffrey Lynn Towery

My experience, knowledge and disciplined planning process enable me to help our clients navigate the complexities of their financial lives, particularly in the area of estate and legacy planning strategies. Recognizing that each family has unique goals and challenges, I tailor my advice and financial planning to their specific needs. By sharing their vision, I can better help them achieve their wealth planning goals while seeking to manage their overall risk.
Over a career dating back to 1982, my experience includes assisting a bank trust department in developing a financial planning service for their affluent clients, advising my own clients, and serving as a branch manager for a major firm.
With a B.S. in Business Administration from Seattle Pacific University, I have been a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional since 1991. Since moving to Morgan Stanley in 2009, I earned their Senior Portfolio Management Director and Family Wealth Advisor designations.
Having grown up on a farm in Madras, Oregon, children and family are important to me. I have been involved with the Open Arms Home for Children Orphanage in South Africa since its founding in 2006, serving on its Board of Directors and visiting the facility and the children who live there.
Married since 1985, Cheryl and I have been blessed with 3 children and three grandchildren. I enjoy the great outdoors of Idaho and especially love time spent hunting, fishing, mountaineering, cycling, golfing and running.

About Judith P Barbera

I focus on translating complex financial issues into understandable concepts and creating action plans that seek to help our clients achieve their individual goals. I have always been passionate about helping clients grow, manage, preserve and transfer their wealth in a meaningful way. I particularly enjoy developing long-term relationships with them, focusing on retirement planning strategies that potentially include social security and long term care insurance.

After earning my B.S. from California Polytechnic State University, I worked in the agricultural field and assisted with veterinary research. In 1987, I began my career in financial services with U.S. Bank because I wanted to help others successfully manage their financial futures. Jeff and I started working together in 1996 and later founded The Riverstone Group at Morgan Stanley. We felt that as a team of professionals we could provide our clients with a more personalized and holistic approach to family wealth management.

I have appreciated the opportunity to serve on the board of Valor Health in Emmett Idaho since 2008. Having grown up on a cattle ranch, I continue to raise Angus cattle with my husband Steve. We have three grown children and love being grandparents. I also enjoy fishing, golfing and cruising with Steve in our classic pickup.
