About Kelly Baumgartner
When did you first start earning money, and how did it happen? For me, it began around the age of eight, hoeing weeds out of soybean fields during the summers on our family farm. The sun was relentless, the rows seemed endless, and the work required steady patience—removing stubborn weeds while taking care not to damage the crop. To pass the time, I listened to my favorite music on a cassette player, later upgraded to a portable CD player—with anti-skip protection, no less. While I could have complained about persistent deer flies or the fact that my friends didn’t have to work, those long summer days marked the beginning of a journey that ultimately led me to my career as a financial advisor.
Each week, my siblings and I were paid for our work, and without delay, our father would schedule a trip to the bank—passbooks in hand. He taught us how to read our account balances and made a game of guessing how much interest we had earned since our last deposit. We proudly handed our hard-earned cash to the teller, who would process the deposit and place our passbooks into a printer that revealed our updated balance and newly earned interest—the highlight of the outing. It was a fun, exciting ritual, reinforced by a simple but powerful lesson: the only way to earn “free” money is by saving it. Repeated over the years, that experience gave me a deep, practical understanding of saving and compound growth. In fact, saving was so ingrained in me that I didn’t realize I could withdraw money from my account until I was in high school.
During high school, I worked at a local credit union to gain real-world experience. It was there that my career path became clear. With a strong sense of purpose and alignment with my personal interests, I focused my college education and professional certifications on learning how to grow wealth—and, ultimately, how to help others do the same.
I was incredibly honored to receive the Makers Award from Morgan Stanley, which recognizes women who are driving change, breaking barriers, and making a lasting impact. Being part of a community that celebrates leadership, advocacy, and inclusion is deeply meaningful to me. This recognition reflects not only my personal journey, but also the support, collaboration, and inspiration I’ve found in those around me.
Today, I have the privilege of working alongside clients, families, and businesses to help grow and preserve their wealth. Together, my team and I have built—and continue to grow—a successful practice grounded in dedication, respect, and genuine care for the people we serve each day.
