Our Story and Services

At the Pelorus Group at Morgan Stanley, we help busy, successful individuals and families find their financial bearings, with a focus on guiding them to the future they envision. With 70 years of combined experience and two team Certified Financial Planners, we are here to assist with key facets of wealth management, including tax planning, portfolio construction, risk management, insurance analysis and estate planning.

We take pride in having many of our clients entrust us with inter-generational wealth. With a wide-angle view that looks beyond a single household, we assist clients and their extended families with the efficient transfer of wealth, whether it is creating a multi-generational legacy or fulfilling a philanthropic endeavor.

Over the last few years, the ever-changing investment landscape has brought many challenges, but also many opportunities. As a steward of our clients’ wealth, we anticipate and plan for impending policy and regulation changes that have the potential to impact tax strategies and estate plans. We guide our clients through market volatility and take steps to ensure that long-term objectives remain intact.

We believe in a process-driven approach to managing wealth and building long-term relationships. Here is what you can expect:

1. Discovery
We invest significant time in learning about you and your family, not just your finances but who you are and what you hope to accomplish with your wealth. Truly knowing you enables us to formulate appropriate strategies driven by both your needs and your values.

2. Creation of Strategic Asset Allocation
Based on a comprehensive understanding of your financial picture, we customize an asset allocation that reflects risk, opportunities and tax considerations that integrate with your overall wealth management strategy.

3. Layer on Tactical Asset Allocation
Tactical asset allocation refers to short-term adjustments that seek to capitalize on timely market opportunities.

4. Formulation of Tax, Trust and Estate Strategy
We work with your tax and legal advisors to identify and maximize potential income and estate tax opportunities.

5. Continual Assessment of Ongoing Wealth Management Needs
We perform ongoing review of your plan to accommodate your changing needs and circumstances to ensure that you remain on target.
For many corporate executives, equity compensation represents a significant component of their overall wealth. This poses unique legal, tax and other considerations, which may make financial planning more complex.

At the Pelorus Group, we specialize in working with concentrated positions, pre and post IPO. We manage both assets and liabilities and strategically plan for the distribution of income. Our experience confirms that a well-designed plan which takes into consideration the timing of exercise, proper tax elections and appropriate use of trust vehicles, allows clients to manage risk, achieve tax efficiency and maximize the rewards of their professional efforts.
At the Pelorus Group, we have decades of experience advising international clients with investments in the U.S. and globally. Some clients are looking to relocate abroad, while others are expatriates returning to the U.S. Often, these clients have family members residing in the U.S. In these and other situations, our extensive cross-border knowledge is critical for understanding the regulations around acceptable investment vehicles, the potential tax impact of gifting and the nuances of estate planning. We work closely with our clients, their tax and estate attorneys, and offshore trust companies in creating private investment companies or trusts to navigate the guidelines efficiently and effectively, both onshore and offshore.
