Passing Along Values As Well As Assets

Orbis Terrarum is the Latin term for “The Whole World”. We chose that name not only because it reflects our geographically diverse backgrounds but also because it reflects our global approach and the clients we serve. Our clients live and work in Asia, Europe and The Americas. Your global success has led to cross-border multigenerational wealth for your family. Your goal is for your family to retain the best of both cultures in which you’ve lived and worked. That requires a conscious effort and considerable thought.

    • Will passing sizable wealth to your heirs impact their work ethic?
    • Are your heirs prepared intellectually and emotionally to manage the family wealth?
    • How can you make sure your charitable efforts are effective and that your family remains interested in philanthropy?
    • Have you developed a trust, tax and estate strategy, and overall wealth plan, that will provide for your current and future needs as well as those of your heirs and causes?

We have experience helping clients answer these questions and address these challenges. We bring the same concern and attention to helping preserve your values as your assets.

    Services We Offer Include:

    • Coordination with external estate attorneys and tax advisors for tax, trust, and estate planning: We will work with your other advisors to ensure your existing plans are in sync with your wealth plan.
    • Global philanthropic advisory: We will help create a charitable giving plan that matches your values, interests and financial needs.
    • Global family governance and education: We will ensure your family members have the knowledge to play whatever role in the family’s wealth future you wish.

        Business Succession Planning
Owning a business represents years, if not decades, of hard work and entrepreneurial savvy. Yet, even the most astute business owners are often unfamiliar with the complexities that go into a successful succession strategy. We understand your succession in the context of your overall financial picture. We also work closely with your other financial advisors to help ensure your priorities are reflected in your succession strategy.

        Concentrated Equity Positions
Equity compensation can be a valuable part of your compensation. But as you accumulate company stock over time, it may become a disproportionate share of your investment portfolio. If the value of that stock declines—for any reason—your wealth could take a major hit and jeopardize your plan. That’s why it’s a good idea to consider diversifying.
